Homily Exultation of the Cross Sep 14th 2014
While the Israelites were being delivered from Egypt, they complained in the desert
because they felt they deserved a good life even when on the journey. Like us, who are
also on the journey, they were sent a punishment to remind them of the presence of
God in their lives.

We too need to remember that our cross brought about by our baptism require us to
accept sufferings and offer them to God without grumbling. We must realize that
sufferings is not pointless. They challenge us to practice self-denial and offer our
sufferings as part of our everyday life.
Individually and as a community we need to identify our crosses. Is it pride,
selfishness, ignorance, fear, confusion, disloyalty and injustices etc. These are the
crosses we must carry with humility in imitation of Christ who emptied himself for our
sake. At the same time, we should remember that sufferings cleanse us of the sickness
of pride which is the expression of selfishness.

As we celebrate this feast of the Cross, we are reminded that we too have to take up
our crosses every day and walk with the lord.

Mientras los israelitas estaban siendo liberados de Egipto, se quejaron en el desierto
porque sentían que merecían una buena vida, incluso cuando en el viaje. Al igual que
nosotros, que también están en el viaje, que fueron enviados a un castigo para
recordarles de la presencia de Dios en sus vidas.

Nosotros también necesitamos recordar que nuestra cruz, producto de nuestro
bautismo nos obligan a aceptar los sufrimientos y ofrecerlos a Dios sin quejarse.
Debemos darnos cuenta de que los sufrimientos no es inútil. Ellos nos desafían a
practicar la abnegación y ofrecer nuestros sufrimientos como parte de nuestra vida
cotidiana.

Individualmente y como comunidad tenemos que identificar nuestras cruces. ¿Es el
orgullo, el egoísmo, la ignorancia, el miedo, la confusión, la deslealtad y las injusticias,
etc Estas son las cruces que debemos llevar con humildad en la imitación de Cristo que
se despojó a sí mismo por nosotros. Al mismo tiempo, debemos recordar que los
sufrimientos nos purifican de la enfermedad de orgullo que es la expresión del
egoísmo.
Al celebrar esta fiesta de la Cruz, nos recuerda que nosotros también tenemos que
tomar nuestra cruz cada día y caminar con el Señor.
