Teachers of our parish
The parable of the workers in the vineyard makes many
people uncomfortable. Why should someone who worked
only an hour get the same pay as someone who “bore the
day’s burden and the heat?” It doesn’t seem fair.
Isaiah reminds us that God ‘is generous in forgiving”. The
Lord tells us, “My thoughts are not your thoughts /nor are
your ways my ways”.
How are God’s ways so high above our ways? We try to
be “fair”. You hurt me, so then I hurt you back, just as
hard. Then, of course, you . . . . and on it goes.
In today’s Gospel Jesus teaches that God is not “fair” like
that. Instead, God is so generous we can hardly
understand it. Jesus tells us this parable to teach us that
God is more concerned with being merciful than with
being fair. “Seek the Lord,” and we might find a God who
calls us to be, not fair, but generous beyond expectations.

You’ve heard the saying, “It’s not where you start but how
you finish.” We have a responsibility not only for our own
lives, but for the lives of others as well. We are called to
generously share our gifts with others, not hoard them for
our own use. Through our gratitude and generosity we
help each other get to Heaven! Work while you have light.
You are responsible for the talent that has been entrusted
to you.
TO SMILE
One Sunday Jesus was out for a stroll, walking near the
pearly gates entrance into heaven, when he heard an old
man's voice call from the other side of the gates.
"Hello? Hello?"
It was a busy day at the pearly gates, and Jesus could
only hear the voice coming from a long line of people
waiting for Saint Peter to grant them admission into
Heaven. Jesus replied, "Who is it?"
"Just a poor, old carpenter searching for his son," the old
man replied.
Jesus became joyful and he shouted out, "Joseph?"
The voice answered back, "Pinocchio?"
 
BUSCAR AL SEÑOR
La parábola de los trabajadores en la viña pone a mucha
gente incomoda. ¿Por qué alguien que solamente trabajó
una hora recibe la misma paga de otro que “soporto la
carga y el calor de todo el día”? Esto no parece justo.
Isaías nos enseña que el camino de Dios es ser
“generoso en perdonar”. El Señor nos dice, “mis
pensamientos no son sus pensamientos / ni sus caminos
son mis caminos”.
¿Cómo es que los caminos de Dios están por encima de
nuestros caminos? Nosotros tratamos de ser “justos”. Tú
me ofendes, entonces yo te ofendo también. Entonces,
por supuesto, tú. . . Y así sucesivamente.
En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús nos dice que Dios no es
“justo” de esa manera. Al contrario, Dios es tan generoso
que no podemos ni siquiera entenderlo. Jesús nos
presenta esta parábola para enseñarnos que Dios se
preocupa más por ser misericordioso que justo.
“Busca al Señor” y encontrarás a un Dios que te llama a
ser, no justo, sino más generoso de lo que te puedes
imaginar.
Reflexión
¿Cuál es mi respuesta a la misericordia de Dios extendida
a otros? ¿Algunas veces encuentro en mí la generosidad
que va más allá de lo que pide la ley?

Un domingo, Jesús fue a dar un paseo, caminando cerca
de la entrada de las puertas del cielo, cuando oyó la voz
de un viejo hombre viejo al otro lado de las puertas
llamado. "¿Hola? ¿Hola?"
Era un día ajetreado en las puertas del cielo, y Jesús sólo
podía escuchar la voz que venía de una larga cola de
gente esperando que San Pedro les concediera la
admisión en el Cielo.
Jesús pregunto: "¿Quién es?"
"Sólo un pobre carpintero en busca de su hijo", respondió
el anciano.
Jesús se llenó de alegría y gritó, "¿José?"
La voz le contestó, "¿Pinocho?"
Usted ha oído el dicho de que "no es donde empieza, sino
cómo termina." Tenemos una responsabilidad no sólo con
nuestra propia vida, sino también por la vida de los
demás. Estamos llamados a compartir generosamente
nuestros dones con los demás, no acumularlos para
nuestro propio uso. A través de nuestra gratitud y
generosidad nos ayudamos unos a otros a llegar a los
cielos. Trabaje mientras tiene luz. Usted es responsable
por el talento que se le ha confiado.
