IRINA KULIKOVA, GUITARRA
Biography of Irina Kulikova
Many of the world’s highest acclaimed guitarists agree: Irina Kulikova is a musician of
outstanding qualities. Winning first prizes on the most prestigious guitar competitions –
including ‘Michele Pittaluga’ in Alessandria, Italy, ‘Guitarra Alhambra’ in Valencia, Spain,
‘Iserlohn’ in Germany and ‘Forum Gitarre Wien’ in Austria – and performing all over
Europe, in Russia and the USA, Irina seems to be well on her way to fulfill the highest
expectations. She has the capacity of completely opening herself to music, dragging
audiences with her into a most profound and honest experience.
Irina Kulikova was born in Chelyabinsk, the capital of South-Ural, Russia. She
commenced playing guitar when she was six. Her rare musical talents were soon
recognized. She was admitted into “New Names” – the International program for young
talents. When she was twelve, she already was winning competitions and playing galaconcerts in all the major cities of Russia. She was invited for concert tours in England,
Italy and Poland and appeared on Russian and Polish television and radio.
At fourteen, Irina was included in the book “The Classical Guitar - its evolution, players
and personalities since 1800” by Maurice J. Summerfield, director of Ashley Mark
Publishing Company.
Ever since this early recognition, Irina has given concerts and performed on musical
festivals in over twenty countries. She performs as a solist, in a great variety of
ensembles and with orchestra’s.
Some highlights of recent years were her appearances in the “Salzburg Schloss
Concerts” in the Schloss Mirabell, on the international festivals of Legnani (Italy), Naxos
(Greece) and Miami (USA), in Bad-Beldenburg for Princess Benedikt and her guests
and in the beautiful cathedral of Coria, Spain.
Irina Kulikova graduated in Moscow (Gnessins Academy) and Salzburg (Mozarteum
University; with honour). She studied with great teachers like Simone Fontanelli
(modern music), Howard Penny (baroque music) and Hans Brüderl (baroque lute). She
participated in Master Classes with (amongst others) José María Gallardo del Rey,
Kshyhtoph Peleh, John Mills, Sergio Assad, Eliot Fisk, Manuel Barrueco, Ricardo Gallen
and David Russell. Currently she continues her work with Marco Tamayo in Austria and
Carlo Marchione in The Netherlands.
In 2005 Irina released her first solo-CD – “Guitar recital”. Fragments of her music can be
found on her website – www.irinakulikova.com. Her second solo-CD she will record in
2009 under the Naxos-label.
Since 2007 Irina lives and teaches in The Netherlands.
