The MAP Test
Dear Infinity Parents,
We are so excited to start this upcoming school year and have the privilege of giving
your child or children an excellent education! You might have heard about the NWEA
Measures of Academic Progress, or MAP test that we give our scholars. We give our
scholars this computer-based test three times a year – in the fall, winter, and spring. This
test gives us some valuable information about our scholars.
Q: What is the MAP Test?
A: The MAP Test is a computer adaptive test. This means that it adjusts its difficulty to the
individual taking it by changing what questions it asks based on whether the test-taker
gets the previous questions right or wrong. This allows the test to find the academic level
of the person taking the test. The MAP test is given in four different areas – Math,
Reading, Science, and Language Usage.
Q: What does the MAP Test tell us?
A: Since the MAP test is adaptive, it does NOT give a percentage score or a pass/fail
grade. Instead, it tells us how your scholar’s knowledge and skills compare to other
students in the same grade around the country, and tells us approximately at what
grade level they are at. By taking this test at multiple points throughout the school year,
this MAP test also tells us how much progress, or growth, each scholar has made in each
subject area.
Q: How does Infinity use this information?
A: We use this information in two big ways:
1) We use the information to help individualize instruction for each scholar. For
example, if a scholar is below the national average in Reading, our ELAR
teacher would invite them to additional tutoring and give them additional
practice resources to help that scholar catch up and get to where they need
to be academically successful, and ultimately prepared for college.
2) We use the information to assess how we are doing as a school. By
aggregating the data, we are able to see what areas we are strong in and
what areas we want to focus extra energy on, so that we can continuously
improve and give your child the very best education possible, which we
believe every single child deserves.

Estamos muy emocionados de iniciar este próximo año escolar y tener el privilegio de
dar a su hijo/hija una educación excelente! Es posible que haya oído hablar sobre
NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (Medidas de Progreso Académico), o prueba de
MAP que damos a nuestros escolares. Damos a nuestros escolares esta prueba basada
en computadora tres veces al año – en el otoño, invierno y primavera. Esta prueba nos
da un poco de Information valiosa acerca de nuestros escolares.
P: Cual es la prueba de MAP?
R: La prueba de MAP es una prueba adaptiva, basada en computadora. Esto significa
que la prueba ajusta su dificultad para el individuo, cambiando las preguntas que pide,
basado si el individuo recibe las preguntas anteriores correctas o incorrectas. Esto
permite que la prueba encuentre el nivel académico de la persona que tomo la
prueba. La prueba de MAP se da en cuatro áreas diferentes – Matemáticas, Lectura,
Ciencias y el Uso del Lenguaje.
P: Que nos dice la prueba MAP?
R: Dado que la prueba MAP es adaptivo, no da una puntación de porcentaje o un
pasa/no pasa de grado. En su lugar, nos dice como el conocimiento y las habilidades
de su escolar comparan con otros escolares en el mismo grado en todo el país, y nos
dice aproximadamente que nivel de grado que está. Al tomar esta prueba en varios
puntos a lo largo del año escolar, esta prueba MAP también nos dice cuanto progreso o
crecimiento cada escolar ha hecho en cada materia.
P: Como utiliza Infinity esta información?
R: Utilizamos esta información de dos formas grandes:
1) Utilizamos la información para ayudar a individualizar la instrucción para
cada escolar. Por ejemplo, si un escolar está por debajo de la media
nacional en lectura, nuestro maestro de ELAR invitaría al escolar a tutoría
adicional y les dará recursos adicionales de práctica para ayudar a avanzar
y llegar a donde tienen que estar académicamente, y últimamente
preparado para universidad.
2) Utilizamos la información para evaluar cómo estamos haciendo, como
escuela. Por medio de la agregación de los datos, podemos ver en qué
áreas somos fuertes y en qué áreas queremos enfocar más energía, para
que podemos mejorar continuamente y dar la mejor educación posible que
creemos cada escolar merece.
