El próximo 19 de junio será festivo en toda Castilla La
Mancha y también en la vecina Comunidad de Madrid. Es la
festividad del Corpus Christi. Las primeras referencias escritas sobre esta fiesta, declarada de Interés Turístico Internacional, son de 1418, cuando todavía ni siquiera estaba terminada
la Catedral.
The 19th of June will be a holiday throughout the Castile-La
Mancha region and also in the neighbouring Madrid Community. It
is the festival of Corpus Christi. The earliest references to this feast
day, which has been declared of International Tourist Interest, date
back to 1418, when the Cathedral was not even finished.
Durante todo el mes anterior al día del Corpus, la ciudad se
va preparando, colocándose sus mejores galas en forma de
“toldos” que forman un continuo palio para la Custodia, durante todo su recorrido. Curiosamente, se considera un buen
augurio que estos toldos se mojen con el agua de la lluvia
de junio. También se construyen arcos con verdes ramas y se
adornan los patios toledanos que solo estos días se abren a la
vista del público.
The city starts to prepare throughout the month preceding Corpus
Christi day, dressing up in its best finery in the form of “awnings” that
form a continuous canopy to shelter the Christ throughout His route.
Interestingly, it is considered a good omen when these awnings are
drenched by June rainfall. Arches made from greenery are also built,
and some of Toledo’s courtyards, which only open to the public during
these days, are also adorned.

año en Brasil, un país en el que el fútbol es más una religión y
una forma de vida que un deporte. De hecho, la “Canarinha”
siempre es el rival a batir y en esta ocasión más al ser el país
anfitrión.
On the eve of the big day people start to gather to secure the best spots
from which to watch the great procession. That same afternoon the
route will fill up with giants and big-heads. And finally comes the
dawn of the big day.The entire city is scented with the aromatic herbs
that cover the floor like a carpet. Precious embroidered fabrics hang
from balconies.The more than thirty participating groups, dressed in
their finery for the occasion, carry banners and standards and await
their turn in the procession.
Fácil no lo van a tener los chicos de Vicente del Bosque. Primero porque en un Mundial ya no hay peritas en dulce y
segundo porque a España le ha tocado un grupo complicado,
integrado por Holanda, Chile y Australia. Debutaremos el 13
de junio, en Salvador de Bahía, frente a Holanda, que seguramente tendrá ganas de resarcirse de la derrota en la final
del Mundial de Sudáfrica. El segundo partido será cinco días
después, el 18, ante Chile. Y cerraremos la primera fase del
Mundial el 23 de junio frente a Australia.
Desde la víspera la gente va cogiendo sitio para presenciar
el gran cortejo. Esa misma tarde el recorrido se llenará de
gigantes y cabezudos.Y, por fin, amanece el gran día- Toda la
ciudad huele a las hierbas aromáticas que cubren el suelo con
si de una alfombra se tratase. Preciosas telas bordadas penden
de los balcones. Los más de treinta grupos participantes, ataviados para la ocasión, llevan pendones y guiones y esperan
su turno en el cortejo

Y después… a seguir soñando. Porque ya, por experiencia,
sabemos que, a veces, los sueños se hacen realidad.Y además,
esta vez, tenemos a alguien, que sabe mucho de esto, “empujando” desde arriba, ¿verdad D. Luis Aragonés? El 13 de julio
sabremos si, de nuevo, nuestro sueño se ha hecho realidad.

Spain’s ‘La Roja’ did so two years ago when she won the second
consecutive European Championship, preceded by the football World
Cup. And we are all excitedly hoping she will do so again this year
in Brazil, a country where football is more religion and lifestyle than
sport. In fact, the “Canarinha” is always the rival to beat and on this

World Cup there are no more lightweight teams and second because
Spain’s group, with Holland, Chile and Australia, is not an easy one.

team which will surely be raring to live down the defeat of theWorld
Cup final in South Africa.The second match will be five days later, on
the 18th, against Chile. And we will close the first phase of the World
Cup on 23 June against Australia.
And afterwards… let us dream on. Because we now know from experience that sometimes dreams can come true. Plus this time we have
someone on our side who knows a lot about this and will be encouraging us from above: won’t you, Mr Luis Aragonés? On 13 July we
will know whether our dream has come true again.

2014 On Fire Tour. Las entradas, que a estas alturas suponemos
agotadas, se venden a un precio que oscila entre los 85 y los
225 euros.

La gira ha estado suspendida durante los meses de marzo y
abril, tras conocerse la trágica muerte de la novia de Mick
Jagger. El grupo conoció la noticia cuando se encontraba en
Australia. Al parecer, la ex modelo y diseñadora L´Wren
Scott se suicidó. La pareja mantenía una relación desde 2001.
Como anécdota señalar que Mick Jagger, de 70 años, es ya
oficialmente “el bisabuelo del rock” ya que su nieta Assisi dio
a luz una niña recientemente. Los Rolling no actuaban en
España desde 2007. A lo mejor se dejan caer por Botín como
en otras ocasiones.
The tour had been suspended over March and April after the tragic
death of Mick Jagger’s girlfriend.The news broke when the group was
in Australia. Apparently the ex-model and designer L’Wren Scott had
committed suicide.The couple had been in a relationship since 2001.
Interestingly, the 70-year-old Mick Jagger is now officially “the
great-grandfather of rock”, as his granddaughter Assisi recently gave
birth to a baby girl. The Stones had not performed in Spain since
2007. They may well come round to Botín, as they have done on
other occasions.
