por Keeli Guilfoyle El programa de lenguajes que Gilkey ofrece es único en el sentido que puedes aprender otro lenguaje y si ya hablas un idioma, puedes aprender uno más.Yo sí pienso que un idioma está conectado a una cultura porque cuando piensas en español piensas en mexico o españa y esa cultura y los aspectos de ello como comida y donde está. Se impacta una cultura con una lengua si otro país viene y toma control o si hay un país y unos de un país diferente vienen y el lenguaje de los que van al otro país se mezcla con los ya ahí y forma un lenguaje y cultura diferente. Ahora se piensa de ese lenguaje nuevo cuando piensas de esa cultura. Yo no escogí hablar español, pero el español es el lenguaje más diverso y se habla en todo el mundo, entonces puedes ir a muchos lugares y van a hablar español ahí. También pienso que al hablar el español, me he convertido en una persona más consciente internacionalmente porque, estudiando una cultura diferente, sé cosas de otros países que gente que no estudia o habla otro lenguaje no sabe. Este idioma ha tomado el rol de casi ser mi lenguaje principal, porque lo hablo cada día por una o dos horas, he ido a un país que habla español y viví con una familia ahí por una semana, y probablemente se más sobre méxico o españa que de los Estados Unidos. Si pudiera añadir un lenguaje en Gilkey, escogería árabe porque es un lenguaje interesante y me gusta la cultura de ahí, también realmente sería una escuela internacional. Tenemos un lenguaje de cada continente excepto África. También es un lenguaje muy diferente que el resto, porque lenguajes germánicos, Francés y Español son lenguas románticas pero chino y árabe son diferentes en que aleman, ingles, frances y español son similares unos a otros y árabe es diferente, no muy similar a otros lenguajes. Para mi, ser un estudiante internacional no es ser estudiante de otro país que fue a estudiar en otro, para mi significa que puedes viajar e ir a la escuela en otros países y conocer la cultura y lenguaje de esos otros países y/o regiones. Estudiar otro lenguaje va a ayudarme en el futuro porque español es un lenguaje hablado en muchos otros países y quizás puede ayudarme tener un trabajo como trabajadora en otros países o puedo trabajar traduciendo y puedo ir a la universidad en otros lugares, si puedo hablar mi idioma nuevo suficientemente bueno para vivir e ir a la escuela ahí, puedo ir a la universidad en ese país gratis. The Impact Of A Language The language program in Gilkey is unique in the way you can learn other language and if you already know a second language, you can learn another. I think a language is connected to a culture because when people think of spanish, for example, people think about Spain and Mexico and the aspects of that culture, such as food, where that country is and dance. Also, a culture can impact a language if another country comes to the one already existing there and takes control or if a people from another culture go to another country and the languages mix to become one different language and culture. Now, instead of those two separate cultures and languages, you think of the one new language and culture. I did not choose to speak spanish, but spanish is the most diverse language and it is spoken all around the world, so you can go to lots of places and they will speak spanish there. Also, I think speaking a second language has helped me become more internationally aware because, studying a different culture, I know things that other people that do not study or speak a second language do not. This language has almost taken the paper of my first language although I learned it second because I speak it every day for an hour or more, I have gone to a spanish­speaking country, I lived with a family for a week there, and I probably know more about it than the United States. If I could add a language to Gilkey’s language program, I would choose arabic because it is a very interesting language and the country has a very rich culture, also because then Gilkey would really be an international school. We have a language from every continent except Africa. Also it is a language different from the rest, because germanic languages, french and spanish are all romantic languages but chinese and arabic are different in the sense that german, english, spanish and french are similar to one another but arabic is not. For me, being an international student is not being a student from another country who went to study in another, to me it means you can travel and go to school in other countries and learn about the culture and language of these other countries and/or regions. Studying another language will help me in the future because Spanish is a language spoken in many other countries and perhaps can help me get a job in other countries or I can work translating and I can go to college elsewhere, if I can speak my new language well enough to live and go to school there, I can go to college in that country for free .
