PEGI Online es un nuevo proyecto financiado por la EC que apunta a ocuparse de
los riesgos asociados con la interacción a tiempo real del jugador y los cambios de
contenido. Pronto la etiqueta de PEGI Online aparecerá en la carátula de los
videojuegos y en los sitios web que permitan jugar.
Durante más de tres años, PEGI ha dado a los padres
europeos detalladas recomendaciones acerca de la
adecuación por edad del contenido del videojuego a través
de un administrador independiente en el formato de
etiquetas de edad y descriptores de contenido en las
carátulas de los videojuegos.
A día de hoy muchos videojuegos comprados en formato
disco pueden ser utilizados junto con otros jugadores a través de un PC o una consola
de videojuegos con conexión a Internet. Más allá de esto, hay cada vez más sitios web
que ofrecen videojuegos exclusivamente online. Estos abarcan desde simples arcades
hasta Juegos de Rol Masivos de Multijugador (MMORPGs es el término
habitualmente utilizado en inglés) que con frecuencia involucran a miles de jugadores
en un mismo juego al mismo tiempo.
Muchos de estos juegos auspician la emergencia de comunidades virtuales, a veces
exponiendo a los jugadores a los riesgos asociados con la interacción a tiempo real
entre compañeros jugadores desconocidos, riesgos como la invasión de la privacidad,
el comportamiento inadeacuado, contenidos creados por el usuario o hipervínculos a
otros sitios web no seguros.
PEGI Online es el nuevo proyecto creado con fondos de la EC que pretende encarar
estos riesgos. Como suplemento al PEGI asegurará un entorno seguro de juego online
a los menores. Los proveedores que se ajusten a los estándares del Código de
Seguridad de PEGI Online obtendrán una licencia para usar la nueva etiqueta de PEGI
Online.
Estos estándares incluyen, entre otras cosas, la obligación de mantener los sitios webs
libres de contenido creado por usuarios ilegales u ofensivos y de hipervínculos poco
recomendables, la protección de la privacidad y la sumisión a un mecanismo de
quejas independiente. La etiqueta aparecerá en la carátula y en los sitios web con una
url hípervinculada a un sitio web dedicado a la información.

Soon to come… PEGI ONLINE
PEGI Online is a new EC funded project that aims to address risks associated with
real time player interaction and changing content. Soon the PEGI Online label will
appear on the packaging of games and on websites that allow online gameplay.
For more than three years, PEGI has provided European
parents with detailed recommendations regarding the age
suitability of game content by an independent administrator
in the form of age labels and content descriptors on game
packages.
Today, many videogames bought on a disc can be played
against other players via a PC or games console with an
internet connection. Further, there are more websites now
offering the chance to play pure online games. These range from simple arcade
games to massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) which often
involve thousands of players participating in a single game at once.
Many such games foster the emergence of virtual communities, sometimes exposing
players to the risks associated with real time interaction between unknown fellow
players, such as breaches of privacy, inappropriate behaviour, user-created content or
unsafe website links.
PEGI Online is a new EC funded project that aims to address these risks. As a
supplement of the PEGI system it will ensure a safe gaming environment for minors.
Game providers who meet the standards set out in the PEGI Online Safety Code will
be licensed to use a new PEGI Online label.
These standards include, amongst other things, obligations to try to keep websites free
of illegal and offensive user-created content and undesirable links, protection of
privacy and submission to an independent complaints mechanism. The label will
appear on packaging and websites with a (hyperlinked) url to a dedicated information
site.
