She believed she could, so she did
Para ella la vida no era fácil
Cada día ella tuve que superar algo diferente.
Creciendo con sus bisabuelos,
Les ensenaron como ser todo en la vida.
Five siblings she had, yet none of them were around.
Ella siempre
juega con su muñeca,
Con la esperanza de que sus hermanos vendrían alrededor.
Con ellos viviendo lejos de ella,
Nomás podría conocerlos por teléfono.
Growing up as a Hispanic wasn’t always easy
Mis parejas no me aceptaban porque el color de mi piel.
Era la guerra, que llevo cuerpo diferente de ellos.
Siempre con mi cabello en rizos y un vestido con flores.
When they heard me speak they thought it was odd.
Que una guerrita podía hablar español.
Pero que ellos no sabían es que yo soy más de que ellos crean.
Mi piel no me define, y ahora te voy a decir porque.
I wanted to show the world I was different
Y eso es que yo hice.
Levante mi cabeza y le dije al mundo,
“Yo no soy tu típico hispano, cree un vida diferente.
Aprendí como hacer muchas cosas a la temprana edad de tres años.
Cocine, limpié, hacía mi cama y más,
Aprendí como construir una casita para mis amigos y yo.
Mis bisabuelos siempre me dejaron hacer lo que yo quería.
Para el mundo es un cosa loco.
Pero de eso yo aprendí que necesitamos nuestros papas
Para ensenarnos como hacer los cosas en el propio manera.
Para ensenarnos que a veces es bueno para llorar y preguntar por ayuda. “
I made a point to be the first in my family not only to graduate High
school,
Yet to continue on to college and support myself the entire time
I exceeded the world’s expectation of a Hispanic,
the typical stereotype of having a kid at the young age of 15 and drop out
of school.
The stereotype of being a “so-called” Chola.
For when people look at me still today, they automatically judge me.
Soy la guerrita que el mundo sabe nada de,
Y ahora, en mi futuro le voy a ensenar que yo no soy
Nomás la guerrita pero que soy,
La Guerra España, Y voy a cambiar el mundo.
Ella creía que podía, para que ella lo hiciera.
My name is Esparanca, in my poem I give a brief description of my life. I was raised by my great grandparents who taught me a lot about life and morals. With that they encouraged me to beat that typical stereotype and to succeed in life as an individual. I am a sophomore at CSU-­‐Pueblo Double majoring in Health Promotion/ Wellness and Spanish. I plan on finishing a year early and starting a job/ career using my Health Promotion and Spanish degree. Once I obtain a stable job I plan on continuing my education to receive my Bachelors in Nursing and having a final career as a Neonatal Nurse in the NICU. I have a strong passion for helping others and will continue to do that for the rest of my life.
