PASTOR'S NOTES
The Year of Faith
We continue this week with the Holy
Father’s reflection on the Year of Faith.

Faith means welcoming this transforming message into
our lives; it means receiving the revelation of God, who
lets us know who He is, how he acts and what his plans
are for us. To be sure, the mystery of God forever remains beyond the capacity of our concepts and our reason, our rites and our prayers. And yet, by his revelation
God himself communicates with us, he tells us about himself and he makes himself accessible. And we are enabled to listen to his Word and to receive his truth. This,
then, is the wonder of faith: God, in his love, creates in us
– through the working of the Holy Spirit – the proper conditions for us to recognize his Word. God himself, in his
will to reveal himself to us, to enter into contact with us
and to make himself present in history, enables us to listen to him and to receive him. St. Paul expresses it with
joy and gratitude in this way: “We thank God constantly
for this, that when you received the word of God which
you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of
men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at
work in you believers” (1 Thessalonians 2:13).
God has revealed himself in words and deeds throughout
the course of a long history of friendship with man, culminating in the Incarnation of the Son of God and in his
mystery of death and resurrection. God not only revealed
himself in the history of a people; he not only spoke by
means of the prophets, but he crossed the threshold of
Heaven to enter the land of men as a man, so that we
might encounter him and listen to him. And from Jerusalem, the proclamation of the Gospel of salvation spread
to the ends of the earth. The Church, born from the side
of Christ, became the bearer of a new and firm hope:
Jesus of Nazareth, crucified and risen, the Savior of the
world, who is seated at the right hand of the Father and
who is judge of the living and the dead. This is the
kerigma, the central and unsettling proclamation of the
faith.
Yet from the beginning there arose the problem of the
“rule of faith”, i.e. of the faithfulness of believers to the
truth of the Gospel, in which they were to stand firm, and
to the saving truth about God and man, which was to be
guarded and handed on. St. Paul writes: “Through it [the
Gospel] you are also being saved, if you hold fast to the
word I preached to you. Otherwise you will have believed
in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:2).
But where do we find the essential formula of the faith?
Where do we find the truths that have been faithfully
transmitted and that are light for our daily lives? The answer is simple: in the Creed, in the Profession of Faith, or
the Symbol of Faith, we reconnect with the original event
of the Person and history of Jesus of Nazareth. It makes
concrete what the Apostle to the Gentiles said to the
Christians at Corinth: “For I delivered to you as of first
importance what I also received, that Christ died for our
sins in accordance with the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day (1 Corinthians
15:3).
Today, too, we need the Creed to be better known, understood and prayed. Above all, it is important that the
Creed be “recognized”, as it were. For knowing can be a
merely intellectual act, while “recognizing” involves discovering the profound connection between the truths that
we profess in the Creed and our daily lives, such that that
these truths truly and tangibly become – as they have
always been – light for the steps of our lives, water that
quenches our burning thirst along our journey, and life
that overcomes some of the deserts of our modern day.
The moral life of the believer is grafted onto the Creed,
and it finds its foundation and justification therein.

Ministry to the Sick: HELP! HELP!
We are in need of stewards to bring communion
to the Homebound and Nursing Homes. Please

you. Operating on volunteer power, the Center provides food for
over 2700 people a month! We make shelter, medical and rental
referrals to other community agencies and assist an average of 50
families monthly apply for food stamps. We have immediate openings for Intake workers and Food Distribution Assistants. Training is
provided. Hours M-F 9:00 am - 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm.

AÑO DE LA FE
Esta semana continuamos con las reflexiones
del Santo Padre sobre el año de la Fé.

La fe es acoger este mensaje transformador en
nuestra vida, es acoger la revelación de Dios, que
nos hace conocer quién es Él, cómo actúa, cuáles
son sus proyectos para nosotros. Cierto: el misterio
de Dios sigue siempre más allá de nuestros conceptos y de nuestra razón, de nuestros ritos y de nuestras oraciones. Con todo, con la revelación es Dios
mismo quien se auto-comunica, se relata, se hace
accesible. Y a nosotros se nos hace capaces de escuchar su Palabra y de recibir su verdad. He aquí
entonces la maravilla de la fe: Dios, en su amor,
crea en nosotros —a través de la obra del Espíritu
Santo— las condiciones adecuadas para que podamos reconocer su Palabra. Dios mismo, en su voluntad de manifestarse, de entrar en contacto con
nosotros, de hacerse presente en nuestra historia,
nos hace capaces de escucharle y de acogerle. San
Pablo lo expresa con alegría y reconocimiento así:
«Damos gracias a Dios sin cesar, porque, al recibir
la Palabra de Dios, que os predicamos, la acogisteis no como palabra humana, sino, cual es en verdad, como Palabra de Dios que permanece operante en vosotros los creyentes» (1 Ts 2, 13).
Dios se ha revelado con palabras y obras en toda
una larga historia de amistad con el hombre, que
culmina en la encarnación del Hijo de Dios y en su
misterio de muerte y resurrección. Dios no sólo se
ha revelado en la historia de un pueblo, no sólo ha
hablado por medio de los profetas, sino que ha
traspasado su Cielo para entrar en la tierra de los
hombres como hombre, a fin de que pudiéramos
encontrarle y escucharle. Y el anuncio del Evangelio de la salvación se difundió desde Jerusalén
hasta los confines de la tierra. La Iglesia, nacida
del costado de Cristo, se ha hecho portadora de
una nueva esperanza sólida: Jesús de Nazaret,
crucificado y resucitado, salvador del mundo, que
está sentado a la derecha del Padre y es el juez de
vivos y muertos. Este es el kerigma, el anuncio central y rompedor de la fe. Pero desde los inicios se
planteó el problema de la «regla de la fe», o sea, de
la fidelidad de los creyentes a la verdad del Evangelio, en la que permanecer firmes; a la verdad
salvífica sobre Dios y sobre el hombre que hay que
custodiar y transmitir. San Pablo escribe: «Os está
salvando [el Evangelio] si os mantenéis en la palabra que os anunciamos; de lo contrario, creísteis en
vano» (1 Co 15, 1.2).
Pero ¿dónde hallamos la fórmula esencial de la fe?
¿Dónde encontramos las verdades que nos han sido
fielmente transmitidas y que constituyen la luz
para nuestra vida cotidiana? La respuesta es sencilla: en el Credo, en la Profesión de fe o Símbolo
de la fe nos enlazamos al acontecimiento originario
de la Persona y de la historia de Jesús de Nazaret;
se hace concreto lo que el Apóstol de los gentiles
decía a los cristianos de Corinto: «Os transmití en
primer lugar lo que también yo recibí: que Cristo
murió por nuestros pecados según las Escrituras; y
que fue sepultado y que resucitó al tercer día» (1 Co
15, 3.4).
También hoy necesitamos que el Credo sea mejor
conocido, comprendido y orado. Sobre todo es importante que el Credo sea, por así decirlo,
«reconocido». Conocer, de hecho, podría ser una
operación solamente intelectual, mientras que
«reconocer» quiere significar la necesidad de descubrir el vínculo profundo entre las verdades que
profesamos en el Credo y nuestra existencia cotidiana a fin de que estas verdades sean verdadera y
concretamente —como siempre lo han sido— luz
para los pasos de nuestro vivir, agua que rocía las
sequedades de nuestro camino, vida que vence ciertos desiertos de la vida contemporánea. En el Credo se injerta la vida moral del cristiano, que en él
encuentra su fundamento y su justificación.

FORMACION FAMILIAR EN LA FE!
AÑO DE LA FE: NOVIEMBRE DE 2012
“EL AÑO DE LA FE”
Recursos indispensables para el Año de la Fe
El Catecismo de la Iglesia católica es un subsidio precioso e indispensable para proveer a todos un conocimiento sistemático
del contenido de la fe. Es uno de los frutos más importantes del
Concilio Vaticano II (ver Benedicto XVI, La puerta de la fe, 11).
Este Año de la Fe, como el Papa lo prevé, es primero una invitación a renovar el entusiasmo gozoso de nuestro encuentro personal con Cristo. Este encuentro personal debe inspirarnos a
renovar nuestro compromiso de un amor altruista a nuestro
prójimo. En este “camino que dura toda la vida”, como el Papa
lo describe, la Iglesia provee “compañeros de viaje”, recursos
prácticos que nos inspiran y nos informan. Pues el “corazón” de
la fe, nuestra relación personal con Cristo, también necesita
una “mente” bien formada en la verdad que Jesús, el amigo de
nuestras almas y el Señor de la Iglesia, nos ha revelado. Por
eso, para el comienzo de este Año de la Fe, todo católico—
individualmente o como familia—debe adquirir los recursos
oficiales de la Iglesia, fácilmente disponibles en librerías o en
Internet. Si todo el Catecismo parece demasiado desafiante,
considera el Compendio del Catecismo, abreviado y con referencias al Catecismo completo, presentando obras de arte seleccionadas por el papa Benedicto y acompañadas de sus comentarios, con un apéndice de oraciones básicas. El libro YouCat: Catecismo para jóvenes, escrito y diseñado específicamente para jóvenes, ofrece un formato con gráficos y un estilo de
escritura contemporáneos, y también una colección de citas de
fuentes antiguas y modernas, haciéndolo popular entre los que
no son tan jóvenes.

MISA DE “DIA DE GRACIAS”
Una de las fiestas más significativas en
este país es la Celebración del “Día de
Gracias”: el jueves 22 de noviembre.
Nuestra Misa Comunitaria será a las 9:30 de la mañana. Y les pedimos comida enlatada para distribuir a los
pobres. La comida de Día de Gracias para quienes lo
necesiten, especialmente nuestros hermanos indigentes,
será en los Salones Parroquiales a las 12:00 del mediodía a las 2 de la tarde.
CENA DE DIA DE GRACIAS
El Este año continuaremos la tradición de
cocinar y servir la Cena de Día de Gracias
para cada persona que necesite celebrar
esta tradición Americana. La Cena se servirá
de las 12:00-2:30 PM. En años pasados
hemos sido bendecidos por la abundancia
de sus donaciones de comida, apoyo económico y tiempo. Si desea AYUDAR puede
apuntarse a la salida de Misa durante el fin
de semana del 10 y 11 de noviembre.

MARTIR DEL SEÑOR
El Papa nos ha invitado a crecer en nuestra Fe
mediante el conocimiento de la vida de los santos. El viernes 23 de noviembre tendremos la
oportunidad de ver la película del Mártir del Señor: Beato P. Miguel Agustín Pro, S.J. en los Salones Parroquiales a partir de las 6:30 de la tarde (subtítulos en
inglés). El Beato P. Pro se dedicó incansablemente, a pesar de
su mala salud, a fundar organizaciones para ayudar a los desamparados en medio de las persecución religiosa. Murió
mártir de la Fe fusilado por el gobierno mexicano.
