3. DETAILS OF CHAPTER ACTIVITIES SINCE LAST REPORT.
3.1
OVERVIEW
CEO Capítulos Estudiantiles en Óptica, which is recognized like a group
by the Universidad Nacional de Colombia – Sede Medellin, contains our
Univ. Nacional de Colombia – Medellin SPIE Chapter. We have four
committees in order to deal with the activities schedule and to reach the
wished social impact of the chapter. The committees are:
•
Divulgation Committee: Its objective is to promote the optics the
study and the research in the academic and social environment.
•
Enterprise Committee: It is related with the possible commercial
relation that the CEO can establish with local enterprises involved in the
optical branches. This committee also searches for possible employments
in the future for the CEO members.
•
Academic Committee:
Its goal is to grow our academic
background research capability to sponsor some specific activities.
•
Projects Committee: This committee develops academic projects
that involve the CEO members.

3.2
THE BEGINNING OUR CHAPTER ( X ENO AND I CANCOA)
Last November the three optics groups of the Universidad Nacional de
Colombia – Sede Medellín (Optics group, Photonic and optoelectronic
group and LASE and spectroscopy group) took part of the National
Meeting on Optics (X ENO) and the I Andean and Caribbean
Conference on Optics and Applications at the Universidad del Valle, in
Cali, Colombia. Since then, we have been working for forming our chapter
in Medellín.

3.3
WEB SITE
At the present, the Spie chapter has a web page in Spanish hosted in the
Universidad Nacional de Colombia – Sede Medellín which contains a lot of
information about the group and its members, the city, the university, the
committees, the research of the three groups that are integral part of the chapter:
the optics group, the photonics & optoelectronics group and the LASER and
spectroscopy group. The site is available in the internet address
www.unalmed.edu.co/~ceomedellin
3.4
DIVULGATION AT THE UNIVERSITY
Since April a campaign for promoting the group has begun. This
promoting operation is basically based in a presentation directed to 20
courses in the campus:
Introducción a la ingeniería física, Introducción a la ingeniería de
Sistemas, Introducción a la ingeniería biológica, Introducción a la
ingeniería civil, introducción a la ingeniería agrícola, introducción a la
ciencia, forestal, Física III (five courses), Óptica, Instrumentación, Taller
I, Taller II, Taller III, Taller IV, Taller V, Seminario de Investigación
posgrado, Seminario permanente del posgrado
3.5 REGULAR MEETINGS
Since February until June we have organized one o two chapter
meetings for month, where we have worked in the organization our
chapter , web page, some ideas for the the poster and logo of chapter
and we have elaborated some optic practices with simple experiments.
3.6 EDUCATION SECRETARY CONTACTS
The SPIE Chapter is working in a project with SEDUCA, Secretaría de
Educación, the education secretary of the Medellín municipality which
consists in developing practices related to optics with the Escuela del
maestro, teacher’s school, which is an entity that works for strengthening
the academic skills of the public and private school teachers. This
organization has been working in this field concentrated in basic
mathematics and physics. We have wanted to explore with them the
possibility of incorporate some experiences of the optics field and they
have accepted. So, now we are constructing the specific activities which
are principally related to the light’s nature, like wave character,
polarization, reflection, refraction, etc. We hope the courses will start in
two months approximately.
3.7 PARTICIPATION OF THE PRESIDENT CHAPTER IN MEETING
Our president received a SPIE Student Travel Contingency Grant then
he traveled San Jose where he showed his poster.

4. Details of planned activities for the future.
4.1
PROJECT WITH SEDUCA
We will present our optical experiment to promotion the optic to
teachers of secondary of Medellin City.
4.2
WORKSHOP
In this activity optics researcher will be invited for to give courses and
conference to participants of the event. This activity will be realized year
in November 19 to 23.
4.3
VIDEOCONFERENCE
The objective of the activity is to invite to optics researcher to give a
videoconference Furthermore, these activities will be developed every
month.

4.4
HIGH SCHOOL DEGREE DAY
In our university every year is celebrated the High school degree day, in
this celebration it is reunited student of secondary, the student chapter
will make activities this day for to promote the student chapter.
4.5
INTEGRATION MEETING
The objectives of this activity are the integration and invite new student
for the chapter.
4.6
STUDENT CHAPTER LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP
Our vice president Rafael Andrés Betancur will be our Officer to attend
the Student Chapter leadership Workshop at Optics & Photonics, San
Diego, 2007. We attached the letters of Rafael.
