INTRODUCTION
Minettia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 is a common genus with more than 30 species described from the Palaearctic región (PAPP, 1984). The palaearctic species are
subdivided into two subgenera: Frendelia CoJlin, 1948 (with only 1 species) and Minettia s.str.
The new species described below belongs to the biseriata species-group. This
group, which includes a dozen species, is characterized, according to PAPP (1981), by
the following characters:
"Robust species, body completely yellow (incl. abdomen), arista elongately plumose, wings clear, at most crossvein darkened by narrow diffuse brown linear spots, 0+3 de
pairs, female 3rd abdominal segment not shortened, 5th and 6th abdominal tergites with
or without a pair each of darle spots, male surstyli with or without a medial tooth, inner
genitalia complex: phallus tubular and involuted, 9th sternite comparatively small, without any modifications, phallapodeme always distinct, phallus partly covered by an intricated chitinized structure interpreted here as left gonite (ventrally to phallus) and right
gonite (dorsally to phallus), both may have two arms; these left and right gonites form a
quasi-tube for phallus".

Minettia cantolraensis sp.n.
Holotype male: head orangish, vértex brown, a brownish spot between eye and base of antenna present, frons orangish anteriorly and brownish between anterior ors, a
brownish spot between ocular margin and anterior ors present, antennae and palpi yellow
orangish, arista plumosa, occiput with a dark brown spot above the neck. Chaetotaxy: 2
ors, vte, vti, oc, pvt (convergent). Gena with a small brownish spot under the eye.
Thorax: completely and uniformly orangish (male paratype with the thorax dark
orangish, except the humeral callus, the mesonotum just above humeral callus, the notopleura, the anterior part of mesopleura, a narrow longitudinal stripe inside de row and the
scutellum which are orangish). Chaetotaxy: 1 h, 2 np, 1 prst, 1 sa, 1 ia, 2 pa, 0+3 de, ac
in 6 rows (posteriorly irregulars), 1 prsc, 2 se, 1 prth, 1 mp posterior, 2 st. Mesopleura
and sternopleura pilóse.
Legs: yellow orangish (dark orangish in the paratype), only 1 dorsal preapical bristle on mid tibia.
Wing: uniformly orangish, without spots, ta and tp a little darker than other veins.
Haltere yellowish.
Abdomen: yellow orangish, without spots.
Total body length: 4.7 mm
Male genitalia: surstyli rounded externally and pointed internally, but not teethed
(Fig. 1). Right gonite U-shaped (Fig. 2); tips of both arms curved, right arm more curved
in the holotype than in the paratype (Figs. 2,3). Phallapodeme longer than left arm of the
right gonite (Fig. 2). Left gonite semi-tubular, not divided into arms, with a posteroventral chitinized acute process (Fig. 4).

Holotype male: Spain, Barcelona, Cabrils (Finca Can Tolrá), 15.7.1994 (drowned
in a swimming-pool surrounded by dense wooded vegetation), M. Carles-Tolrá leg.
Paratype male: 16.8.1991, all other data as for the holotype. Type material preserved in alcohol in the author's collection.
Discussion: among the species belonging to the biseriata-group, Minettia cantolraensis sp.n. presents an unspoted abdomen, palpi enterely yellow-orangish, scutellum
without ventral spots and male surstyli without a distinct tooth. Therefore, M. cantolraensis keys out, in PAPP'S (1981) key, to point 18(19)719(18) which includes M. plwnicheta (Rondani, 1868) and M. flavipalpis (Loew, 1847). M. cantolraensis sp.n. clearly
differs from these two species by its genital characters, as they have asymmetrical
surstyli (Figs. 5,6).

Biology: unknown. Both specimens were collected drowned in a swimming-pool
surrounded by dense wooded vegetation.
Etymology: the specific ñame comes from "Can ToLrá", a prívate property where
the specimens were collected.
Distribution: known only from northeastern Spain.
