Presentación Esta asignatura trata sobre el uso del inglés en un entorno de telecomunicaciones. Está diseñada para mejorar las habilidades de comunicación y conocimientos de idioma de especialista de estudiantes de ingeniería. Con un especial énfasis en el vocabulario técnico y las habilidades de lenguaje como comprensión y expresión oral, cubre temas comunes a los diferentes campos de la ingeniería de telecomunicaciones tales como electrónica, satélites, fibra óptica o la comunicación inalámbrica. También se incluyen actividades auténticas basadas en contextos cotidianos de ingeniería y oportunidades de autoaprendizaje. 3.2. Ubicación en el plan de estudios Tercer curso, primer cuatrimestre. 3.3. Descripción de la asignatura. Adecuación al perfil profesional El inglés es una herramienta instrumental imprescindible en el ámbito de las comunicaciones. La asignatura incide en la adquisición de vocabulario técnico tanto de forma oral como escrita, proporcionando de este modo a los alumnos estrategias de comunicación profesional que tendrán que usar en el mundo profesional. 3.4. Relación con otras asignaturas. Prerrequisitos y recomendaciones El curso está diseñado para favorecer la transición entre el nivel B1 y B2 del European Language Passport, por lo tanto, se espera un mínimo de punto de partida en B1. Los estudiantes están invitados a evaluar su propio nivel en la siguiente página: http://www.coe.int/T/DG4/Portfolio/L=E&M=/main_pages/levels.html. Objetivos generales Desarrollar un nivel intermedio superior deinglés oral y escrito aplicado al contexto de la ingeniería de sistemas. - Mejorar el trabajo en grupo y las habilidades interpersonales en relación con las destrezas lingüísticas comunicativas en inglés. - Desarrollar estrategias individuales de aprendizaje autónomo de la lengua, por medio de la utilización de los recursos, las técnicas de búsqueda, etc. 4.4. Resultados esperados del aprendizaje 1. Adquisición de un nivel de la lengua entre B1- Consolidado/B2 en comunicación oral y escrita. 2. Contenidos según el plan de estudios This subject deals with the use of English in a telecommunication environment. It is designed to improve the communication skills and specialist language knowledge of engineering students. With a special emphasis on technical vocabulary and language skills such as listening and speaking, it covers topics common to different fields of telecommunication engineering such as electronics, satellites, fiber optics or wireless communication. Group oral presentation: In groups of 3-4 students, and having learnt the basics of oral presentation techniques, students will present a topic of their choice, though related to any of the course units, in no more than 10 minutes. For a detailed preparation and grading of this part, go to pages 91-96 from your textbook. Each presentation will be co-evaluated by the rest of the class. 2. Vocabulary test: You will be asked to complete 5 exercises, one for each unit (units 1-5), taken both from the selfcheck part at the end of each unit, and from the Vocabulary Reinforcement session (see textbook). Score: 4% for each answer. 3. Listening test: A listening comprehension about any of the audiovisual parts of units 1-5. Score: 10% for content accuracy and 10% for grammar and syntax. 4. Written test & lab report assignment: Two short compositions about any of the course units, as they appear in the “Written assignment” section (to be completed in class, with the help of a paper dictionary), plus the delivery of a lab report assignment (to be completed at home).
