Personal pronouns/Subject pronouns The function of pronouns is to replace nouns Ex. Charles can be replaced with the personal pronoun “he” Personal pronouns are also called subject pronouns if they are the subject of a sentence. Ex. the personal pronoun “he” can be called a subject pronoun in the following sentence: My friend Carlos is from California. He is from California. The pronoun “He” replaces “My friend Carlos”. It is important to know that the subject is the person who does the action or is being describe in a sentence. In Spanish the personal pronouns are as follows. singular Plural 1st Person (I) (We) Yo Nosotros/Nosotras 2nd Person (you informal) (You all informal used in Spain mostly) Tú Vosotros/Vosotras 3rd Person (He) (They masculine) Él Ellos 3rd Person (she) (They feminine) Ella Ellas 2nd Person (You formal) (You all formal, use in Hispanoamerica) Usted/Ud.
