 ARTIST STATEMENT: Luis Rodriguez NOA First of all I do my best to be myself, to paint what I am or what I think, and do it free, spontaneous, and sometimes even in an automatic way, because I think natural creative impulses and intuition are useful tools to transmit power and meaning through work. I want to be informed, but I want to be true to myself, so I do not put much attention on trends or fads, and paint the way that I think is most harmonious to what I want to say. Through my daily experiences in Havana, and expressed through my own language of symbols, this series will explore the dynamics of the city and its characters; particularly the absurdity, chaos, noise, the unexpected movement, humor, passion and lyricism that can be found in the streets: from the bizarre to the beautiful, from the ordinary to the magical. In short I want to portray a world made of dreams that is vibrant, full of life, and intellectual. With these works I interpret and reconstruct the reality from my own personal views. DECLARACION DEL ARTISTA:
Ante todo hago lo posible por ser yo mismo, pintar lo que soy o lo que pienso, y
hacerlo de una manera libre, espontánea, inmediata, y a veces hasta de una
manera automática, porque me parece que el impulso creativo natural y la
intuición son un recurso muy útil para lograr transmitir energía y sentido a través
de la obra. Me interesa estar informado, pero más me interesa ser auténtico en
la medida de lo posible, así que no pongo mucha atención en las tendencias o
las modas, y pinto de la manera que me parezca que está más en armonía con
lo que quiero expresar.
A través de mis vivencias cotidianas en La Habana, y expresado a través de mi
propio lenguaje de símbolos, esta serie explorará la dinámica de la ciudad y sus
personajes; en concreto lo absurdo, el caos, el ruido, lo inesperado, el
movimiento, humor, pasión y lirismo que pueden encontrarse en las calles: de lo
extraño a lo bello, de lo ordinario a lo mágico. En resumen un mundo vibrante,
lleno de vida, intelecto, tragedia y sueños. Con estas obras interpreto y
reconstruyo esa realidad a partir de mis propias visiones personales.
