MARZO 23, 2014
anuncia al Salvador. Deja allí su cántaro de agua; en
su lugar lleva la gracia a su ciudad; aliviada de su
carga, regresa colmada de santidad… La que fué
pecadora se convierte en profetisa.
TERCER DOMINGO DE CUARESMA
PRIMERA LECTURA: Ex. 17,3-7.
“Tenemos sed: danos agua para beber”.
SALMO 94.
“Señor, que no seamos sordos a tu voz”.
SEGUNDA LECTURA: Rm. 5,1-2.5-8.
“Dios ha infundido su amor en nuestros corazones por
medio del Espíritu Santo”.
EVANGELIO: Jn. 4,5-42
“Un manantial capaz de dar la vida eterna”.
REFLEXIÓN
"Dejando allí su cántaro, la mujer volvió a la
ciudad y dijo: 'Venid a ver a un hombre que me
ha dicho todo lo que he hecho. ¿No será el
Mesías?' "
"Como el agua apaga las llamas, la limosna apaga
los pecados" (Eclo 3,30): el agua es comparada con la
misericordia. Entonces así como el agua viene de una
fuente, debo buscar la fuente de la misericordia. La
encontré en casa del profeta: "En ti está la fuente de
la vida, y tu luz nos hace ver la luz" (Sal. 35,10). Es
Él quien en el Evangelio reclama agua a la mujer de
Samaria… El Salvador reclama agua a la mujer, y
finge tener sed para distribuir a los sedientos la
Gracia Eterna. La fuente, en efecto, no podía tener
sed, y aquel en que se encuentra el agua viva no podía
beber el agua manchada por esta tierra. ¿Cristo tenía
sed? Sí, tenía sed, no de la bebida de los hombres,
sino de su salvación; tenía sed, no de agua de la
tierra, sino de la Redención del género humano.
Cristo, que es la fuente, sentado cerca del pozo,
hacer brotar milagrosamente en el mismo lugar el
agua de la misericordia; una mujer que ya había
tenido seis amantes es purificada por los flujos del
agua viva. Admirable: ¡una mujer con esta vida,
viene al pozo de Samaria, y se va purificada de la
fuente de Jesús! Venía a buscar agua y se marcha
repleta de virtud. Confiesa en seguida los pecados a
los que Jesús hace alusión, reconoce a Cristo y
"The woman left her water jar and went into the
town and said: 'Come see a man who told me
everything I have done. Could he possibly be the
Messiah? ' "
“Water quenches a flaming fire and alms atone for
sin” (Sir 3,29): water is compared to mercy. But just
as water flows from a source, so must I search for the
source of mercy. And I have found it in the prophet:
“With you is the source of life and in your light we
see light” (Ps 35[36],10).
It is indeed he who in the Gospel asks for water from
the Samaritan woman... Our Savior asks the woman
for water and pretends to be thirsty so he can pass on
eternal grace to the thirsty. For indeed, the source
cannot be thirsty and he in whom living water is to be
found cannot drink the polluted water of this earth.
Was Christ thirsty? Indeed he was thirsty but not for
our drink but for our salvation. He was thirsty, not for
earth's water but for the redemption of humankind.
Christ the source, seated at the well, miraculously
causes the waters of mercy to spring up from that
same location. A woman who has already had six
lovers is purified by the waves of living water. Oh
what a wonder! A loose woman who has come to the
well of Samaria returns chaste from Jesus' source!
Having come in search of water, she departs with
virtue. She immediately confesses to the sins to
which Jesus alludes, she recognizes the Christ and
proclaims the Savior. She leaves her water jar behind
and... in its place brings grace back with her to the
village; relieved of her burden, she returns laden with
holiness... She who came a sinner returns a
prophetess.
