LAURA LAMBULEY
Pianist - Colombia
Since she was a child, and within her family
circle, Laura Lambuley has always immersed
herself profoundly in the study and practice of a
variety of Colombian regional music, in the way
that tradition requires, that is, by experiencing it
alongside the musicians themselves, through
dancing and “parrandos”, through local village
fairs. In this way, creole and urban musicians, free
from the constraints of a concert or an interview
(although there were also many of these), show
with enormous generosity their playing
characteristics.
Laura also began formal piano studies at a very young age and later, when she
was more mature and had acquired many of the different expressions of the
immense repertoire of the piano, embarked on a new phase of consolidation of
what she herself calls a balanced, fluid relationship between the “joropo” (music
from eastern plain lands in Colombia) and the piano. This, added to her
undoubted professional and interpretative qualities, has resulted in a rare and
beautiful example of a true path of the development of Colombian regional
music and piano repertoire (Manuel Bernal)”. Laura has being rewarded with
important accolades as the ICETEX scholarship “Young Performers 2009” (to
study piano jazz in NY City), and her invitation in the National Concert Seasons
by the Bank of the Republic of Colombia.
With her project “Llano en Blanco y Negro” (Plains in black and white) Laura
has participated on important halls from Colombia, Jamaica, Spain and United
States. She also has earned several competitions in Colombia: Winner of first
place in the contest IX Piano Musical interpretation in homage to the
master ORIOL RANGEL 2008. Winner in the Concert Series of the District
Institute of Culture and Tourism AWARDS in the form of Colombian music 2003
and 2005. Winner in the cycles of the Luis Angel Arango Library
"Lunes de Jóvenes intérpretes” (Mondays of Young Musicians) 2004, between
others. She also was invited by the President of the Republic and the Ministry of
Culture of Colombia to participate in the Grand National Concert 2008 and 2010
of the international celebration of the independence of Colombia. Laura has
shared the stage with important musicians from the contemporary musical scene
like Edmar Castañeda, Aquiles Báez,
Samuel
Torres, Jhon Benitez and
Robert Quintero in New York City. She also performed with Gurrufio Ensemble
at the “Colombia at the park 2010” celebration in Bogotá city and with the
remarkable Venezuelan artist Saúl Vera in the United States.
Alongside her artistic career, Laura Lambuley started teaching piano while
finishing her undergraduate piano studies at Fundacion Orquesta Sinfonica
Juvenil de Colombia (Youth Symphonic Orchestra of Colombia) and preparing
young pianists for University studies at the preparatory program of the
FJC District University’s Art Faculty in Colombia. Few years later, at the same
institution, she started teaching in the undergraduate piano program, she had
the opportunity to be the director of the Colombian Music Ensemble, member of
the Accreditation committee, member of the research team "COMA" in the
project
“MOVILIDAD Y RECURRENCIA EN LAS MUSICAS REGIONALES”
(MOBILITY AND REGIONAL RECURRENCE IN REGIONAL MUSIC), and two
years before moving to the United States was the head of the piano department.
Currently Laura is promoting her album "Llano en blanco y negro" (Plains in
black and White) and working on her second project. Also she is an active
teacher with her own piano studio and is doing her Masters degree in Piano Jazz
at Florida International University under the guidance of professor and Jazz
pianist Mike Orta.

Desde niña y dentro de su círculo familiar, Laura Lambuley se sumergió
profundamente en el estudio y la práctica de diversas músicas regionales
colombianas, de la manera en que lo dicta la tradición: a través de la vivencia con
los músicos, a través del baile, de los parrandos, de la reunión festiva en la que,
sin la prevención del concierto o la entrevista (que también los hay, y muchos)
los músicos criollos y urbanos muestran con generosidad su manera de tocar.
También desde muy joven inició estudios formales de piano y, luego de madurar
y apropiar diversos lenguajes del inmenso repertorio pianístico, abordó una
nueva etapa de consolidación de lo que ella misma llama una relación
balanceada y confluente entre la música y el instrumento. Esto, sumado a sus
indudables calidades profesionales e interpretativas, le permite obtener
importantes reconocimientos como la reciente beca de Jóvenes Intérpretes del
ICETEX y constituirse en una rara pero ejemplarmente bella muestra de una
verdadera senda de desarrollo de las músicas regionales colombianas y del
repertorio pianístico. Laura ha sido honrada con importantes distinciones como
la beca “Jóvenes Talentos 2009” del ICETEX (Para adelantar estudios de Jazz en
la cuidad de NY), y con la invitación que recibió para realizar una gira de
conciertos por parte del Banco de la Republica por diferentes ciudades de
Colombia.
Con su propuesta “Llano en Blanco y Negro” ha participado en importantes
escenarios de Colombia, Jamaica, España y Estados Unidos. Laura también ha
sido acreedora de varios concursos y convocatorias en Colombia: Fue ganadora
del primer puesto en el X CONCURSO DE INTERPRETACION "Ciudad de
Bogotá" PIANO HOMENAJE AL MAESTRO ORIOL RANGEL 2008. Ganadora
en los PREMIOS CICLOS DE CONCIERTOS en la modalidad de Música
Colombiana de las convocatorias del Instituto Distrital de Cultura y Turismo en
el 2003 y 2005. Ganadora en las convocatorias de la Biblioteca Luís Ángel Arango
“Lunes de Jóvenes Intérpretes 2004”, entre otros. Invitada a participar en la
celebración internacional de la Independencia de Colombia en el Gran Concierto
Nacional realizado en el Parque simón Bolívar de Bogotá, 20 julio de 2008 y 2010
en Jamaica. Laura ha compartido escenarios con importantes músicos de la
escena musical contemporánea como Edmar Castañeda, Aquiles Báez, Samuel
Torres, John Benítez and Robert Quintero en la ciudad de New York. También
participo con la agrupación Ensamble Gurrufío en el Festival Colombia al Parque
que se celebra una vez al año en la cuidad de Bogotá y con el destacado artista
Venezolano Saúl Vera. Actualmente se encuentra adelantando estudios de piano
Jazz en Estados Unidos y en la promoción de su trabajo discográfico “Llano en
blanco y negro”.
Paralelo a su carrera artística, Laura Lambuley comenzó su experiencia como
docente mientras terminaba sus estudios de pregrado, enseñando en la
Fundación Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil de Colombia y preparando jóvenes
pianistas para el ingreso a estudios universitarios en el programa preparatorio de
la Academia Superior de Artes de Bogotá, Col. Pocos años después, en la misma
institución, Laura comenzó a enseñar en el progra de piano de pregrado de la
Facultad de Artes de la Universidad Distrital FJC, donde tuvo tambien la
oportunidad de dirigir el Ensamble de Musica Colombiana, fue miembro del
cómitre de acreditación, miembro del el grupo de investigación musical
“COMA”
con
el
proyecto
“MOVILIDAD Y RECURRENCIA EN LAS MUSICAS REGIONALES”, y dos años antes de
viajar hacia los Estados Unidos dirigió el departamento de piano de esta
Facultad.
Actualmente Laura se encuentra promoviendo su disco “Llano en blanco y
negro” y produciendo su segundo trabajo discográfico. Por otra parte dirige su
propio estudio privado de piano y se encuentra realizando una Maestría en
Piano Jazz en la Universidad Internacional de la Florida FIU bajo la tutoría del
maestro y pianista de Jazz Mike Orta.
