For the last few weeks we've been delving into Pope Francis' most recent exhortation called The Joy of Love. In this third installment we look at the third chapter, Jesus reveals to us the Vocation of the Family. Amidst the many teachings and "hot-button" questions in relation to the church it can often be easy to forget the very core of what we profess and upon which everything else builds. In Greek we call this foundation the Kergyma. Kerygma means to preach in such a way that doesn't focus on doctrine or teachings but rather leads others to the unconditional and all-consuming Love of the One Who lived, died and rose for our sakes. As Pope Francis says the "Christian family can be fully understood only in the light of the Father’s infinite love revealed in Christ, who gave himself up for our sake and who continues to dwell in our midst." This then is the paradigm of marital love. The indissolubility of the Father's love is reflected in the indissolubility of marriage. This, "should not be viewed as a ‘yoke’ imposed on humanity, but as a ‘gift’ granted to those who are joined in marriage… God’s indulgent love always accompanies our human journey; through grace, it heals and transforms hardened hearts, leading them back to the beginning through the way of the cross." Marriage then is thus not only an institution established as good for society or an archaic system. Rather we see in that, "The Gospel of the family spans the history of the world, from the creation of man and woman in the image and likeness of God (cf. Gen 1:26-27), to the fulfilment of the mystery of the covenant in Christ at the end of time with the marriage of the Lamb (cf. Rev 19:9)”. This precisely is the reality which the marriage of spouses participates in. "The sacrament of marriage is not a social convention, an empty ritual or merely the outward sign of a commitment. The sacrament is a gift given for the sanctification and salvation of the spouses, since “their mutual belonging is a real representation, through the sacramental sign, of the same relationship between Christ and the Church. The married couple are therefore a permanent reminder for the Church of what took place on the cross; they are for one another and for their children witnesses of the salvation in which they share through the sacrament." Recognizing the varied cultural norms and pressures placed now on couples he highlights the importance of the Church to not only teach the truth of marriage but to also accompany and journey with those whose marriages await the day they can become Sacramental. In perhaps the most beautiful section of this chapter he speaks of the role of children within marriage. "The child who is born “does not come from outside as something added on to the mutual love of the spouses, but springs from the very heart of that mutual giving, as its fruit and fulfilment”.85 He or she does not appear at the end of a process, but is present from the beginning of love as an essential feature, one that cannot be denied without disfiguring that love itself." This "taking flesh" of marital love entrusts the parents with the education and formation of their children. Schools do not replace parents, but complement them. This is a basic principle: “all other participants in the process of education are only able to carry out their responsibilities in the name of the parents, with their consent and, to a certain degree, with their authorization." En las últimas semanas hemos estado profundizando en la más reciente exhortación del Papa Francisco 'llamado la alegría del amor. En esta tercera entrega nos fijamos en el tercer capítulo, Jesús nos revela la vocación de la familia. En medio de las muchas enseñanzas y cuestiones "candentes" en relación con la iglesia a menudo puede ser fácil olvidar la esencia misma de lo que profesamos y sobre lo cual se basa todo lo demás. En griego llamamos a este fundamento el kerygma. Kerigma significa predicar de tal manera que no se centra en la doctrina o enseñanzas sino que conduce a otros a lo incondicional y lo consume todo el amor de Aquel que vivió, murió y resucitó por nosotros. Como dice el Papa Francisco la "familia cristiana puede ser plenamente comprendida sólo a la luz del infinito amor del Padre revelado en Cristo, que se entregó por nosotros, y que continúa a habitando en medio de nosotros." Este es entonces el paradigma del amor conyugal. La indisolubilidad del amor del Padre se refleja en la indisolubilidad del matrimonio. Esto, "no debe ser visto como un" yugo "impuesto a la humanidad, sino como un" regalo "concedido a los que están unidos en matrimonio ... amor indulgente de Dios siempre acompaña nuestra trayectoria humana, a través de la gracia, se cura y transforma los corazones endurecidos, llevándolos de nuevo al principio a través del camino de la cruz ". El matrimonio es, pues, de este modo no sólo una institución establecida como bueno para la sociedad o un sistema arcaico. Más bien vemos en que, "El Evangelio de la familia abarca la historia del mundo, desde la creación del hombre y la mujer a imagen y semejanza de Dios (cf. Gn 1, 26-27), a la realización del misterio del pacto en Cristo al final de los tiempos con el matrimonio del Cordero (cf. Ap 19: 9). ". Esto, precisamente, es la realidad que el matrimonio de los cónyuges participa en" el sacramento del matrimonio no es una convención social, un ritual vacío o simplemente el signo externo de un compromiso. La Santa Cena es un regalo dado por la santificación y la salvación de los cónyuges, ya que "su pertenencia mutua es una representación real, mediante el signo sacramental, de la misma relación entre Cristo y la Iglesia. La pareja se casó por lo tanto, son un recordatorio permanente de la Iglesia de lo que sucedió en la cruz; son el uno para el otro y para sus hijos testigos de la salvación en el que se comparten a través del sacramento ". Al reconocer la variedad de normas culturales y las presiones que se ejercen ahora en parejas a las que pone de relieve la importancia de la Iglesia, no sólo para enseñar la verdad del matrimonio, sino también para acompañar y viajar con las personas cuyos matrimonios esperan el día en que puedan convertirse Sacramental. En tal vez la sección más hermosa de este capítulo habla del papel de los niños dentro del matrimonio. "El niño que nace" no viene de fuera a añadirse al amor mutuo de los cónyuges, sino que brota de el corazón mismo de ese don mutuo, como es fruto y cumplimiento ". Él o ella no aparece en al final de un proceso, sino que está presente desde el principio del amor como una característica esencial, uno que no puede ser negado sin desfigurar al amor mismo ". Este "encarnarse" del amor conyugal confía a los padres con la educación y formación de sus hijos. Las escuelas no sustituyen a los padres, sino que los complementan. Este es un principio básico: "todos los demás participantes en el proceso de la educación sólo son capaces de llevar a cabo sus responsabilidades en el nombre de los padres, con su consentimiento y, hasta cierto punto, con su autorización." Chuck Dornquast Vicario parroquial June 26, 2016 26 de Junio 2016 Liturgia Y Eventos Page 11 Page 11 Ángelus: Papa Francisco explica que significa “cargar la cruz” y seguir a Cristo “¿Quién es Jesús para cada uno de nosotros?”, invitó el Papa Francisco a reflexionar en sus palabras previas al rezo del Ángelus dominical, donde explicó a los fieles qué significa cargar con la cruz personal para seguir al Señor y llevarlo a un mundo que “tiene más que nunca necesidad de Cristo”. Desde el balcón del Palacio Apostólico, el Santo Padre reflexionó sobre el Evangelio del día para explicar a los fieles las palabras de Jesús cuando dice “el que quiera venir detrás de mí, que renuncie a sí mismo, que cargue con su cruz cada día y me siga”. “No se trata de una cruz ornamental, o ideológica –señaló Francisco-, sino es la cruz de la vida, es la cruz del propio deber, la cruz del sacrificarse por los demás con amor, por los padres, por los hijos, por la familia, por los amigos, también por los enemigos; la cruz de la disponibilidad a ser solidario con los pobres, a comprometerse por la justicia y la paz”. El Pontífice señaló que “en el asumir esta actitud, estas cruces, siempre se pierde algo. No debemos olvidar jamás que ‘el que pierda su vida – por Cristo – la salvará’. Es perder, para ganar. Y recordemos a todos nuestros hermanos que todavía hoy ponen en práctica estas palabras de Jesús, ofreciendo su tiempo, su trabajo, sus fatigas e incluso su propia vida para no negar su fe a Cristo”. El Papa recordó a los fieles reunidos en la Plaza de San Pedro que “Jesús, mediante su Santo Espíritu, nos dará la fuerza de ir adelante en el camino de la fe y del testimonio: hacer aquello en lo cual creemos; no decir una cosa y hacer otra. Y en este camino siempre está cerca de nosotros y nos precede la Virgen: dejémonos tomar de la mano por ella, cuando atravesamos los momentos más oscuros y difíciles”. En su reflexión, el Papa Francisco dijo que el Evangelio de este domingo también “nos llama una vez más a confrontarnos, por así decir, ‘cara a cara’ con Jesús”. El Santo Padre explicó que en aquel tiempo la gente “tenía estima por Jesús y lo consideraba un gran profeta, pero aún no eran conscientes de su verdadera identidad, es decir que Él fuera el Mesías, el Hijo de Dios enviado por el Padre para la salvación de todos”. Por ello, ante la pregunta que hace a los apóstoles: “¿Quién dice la gente que soy yo?”; estos le responden: “Unos dicen que eres Juan el Bautista; otros, Elías; y otros, alguno de los antiguos profetas que ha resucitado”. El mundo tiene más que nunca necesidad de Cristo, de su salvación, de su amor misericordioso”. “Muchas personas experimentan un vacío a su alrededor y dentro de sí – tal vez, algunas veces, también nosotros –; otras viven en la inquietud y en la inseguridad a causa de la precariedad y de los conflictos. Todos tenemos necesidad de respuestas adecuadas a nuestras interrogantes, a nuestras preguntas concretas. En Cristo, solo en Él, es posible encontrar la paz verdadera y el cumplimiento de toda humana aspiración. Jesús conoce el corazón del hombre como ningún otro. Por esto lo puede sanar, dándole vida y consolación”, afirmó.
