CATHERINE MARTIN
(Québec, Canada, 1958)
Estudió Artes Visuales y Bellas Artes en la
Universidad, así como cine y fotografía. Martin
escribe y dirige todas sus películas, que han
sido seleccionadas y galardonadas en los
más prestigiosos festivales internacionales.
Tres tiempos después de la muerte de Ana, su
largometraje anterior (2009), fue seleccionado
en competencia en Karlovy Vary y en el Festival
Cinematográfico Internacional del Uruguay,
entre otros.
She studied visual arts in college and went on to
do Fine Arts at Concordia University in Montréal,
where she studied film and photography.
Catherine Martin writes and directs all her films.
They have been selected by many international
festivals and have won awards both at home
and abroad. Trois temps après la mort d’Anna
(2009) was selected for official competition at
the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in
the Czech Republic and was also screened at
several international film festivals, including the
International Film Festival of Uruguay.
Chantal es una jovencita solitaria e introvertida. Vive con su madre enferma y su padre desempleado.
Cuando su madre muere, abandona su casa y emprende un viaje hacia la península Gaspé. Lleva consigo
una foto de una playa a la que su madre soñaba con volver. Chantal intenta en vano encontrar ese lugar.
Luego de vagar días enteros, se queda sin dinero y encuentra refugio con Serge, un granjero taciturno,
en su pequeña granja en medio del campo.
Serge contrata a Chantal, y lentamente, estas dos almas solitarias llegan a conocerse. El paisaje
natural a su alrededor inspira a Chantal a abrirse al mundo y a su belleza. La granja está en problemas.
Serge se resiste a los intentos de su hermana Laura de desprenderse de lo que queda de la riqueza
de su familia. Mientras tanto, Serge y Chantal comienzan a entenderse gradualmente. Inspirada en
Mouchette, el clásico de Robert Bresson, Un viaje es la crónica de ese encuentro y la manera en la que
construyen un vínculo.
Chantal is a secretive young girl. She lives with her sick mother and unemployed father. When her
mother dies, she leaves the family home for the Gaspé peninsula. She brings with her a photo of a beach
where her mother longed to return. Chantal tries to find the place, but in vain. After wandering around
for days, she runs out of money and finds refuge with Serge, a taciturn farmer, on his small farm in the
back country.
Serge hires Chantal, and slowly, these two lonely people get to know each other. The natural landscape around her inspires Chantal to open up to the world and its beauty. The farm is in trouble. Serge is
resisting his sister Laura’s attempts to unload what remains of their family property. They have reached
an impasse.
Serge and Chantal gradually take to one another. Inspired by Robert Bresson's classic Mouchette, A
Journey is the story of the way they meet and form a bond.
