A SUNDAY FOR REJOICING
Today’s Gospel story of the prodigal son is a favorite of many.
We can identify with all the major figures and their crisscross of
emotions. The father’s initial grief over his young son’s avarice is
turned to relief at his return. The son’s grief over his loss of fortune,
family, and friends is turned to delirious joy at the sight of his
father.
We understand the eldest son’s bewilderment over his father’s
generosity. For the older son, virtue seems not to be its own reward.
For all his honorable toil and loyalty, there seems to be no
celebration. The father, however, is prodigal in his forgiveness and
mercy. He expects the same generosity from his older son. He wants
all to rejoice when the lost one is found.
This is a Sunday for rejoicing. It’s time to pause, consider, and
encourage one another. We are the prodigal children heading home.
We are the elder siblings waiting with the eager Father, who scans
the horizon. In Christ Jesus we are reconciled to the Father and one
another. In his death and resurrection we have passed over. We are a
new creation. In this we rejoice.

UN DOMINGO PARA ALEGRARSE
Pocas parábolas del Evangelio son tan queridas por el pueblo cristiano
como la del hijo pródigo. Nos podemos identificar con todos sus personajes,
y con las emociones que se entrecruzan entre ellos. El dolor del padre por la
avaricia y desconsideración de su hijo se convierte en alegría al verlo
regresar. El dolor del hijo por haber perdido todo lo que tenía –dinero,
familia, amigos– se convierte en alegría delirante al ver como su padre lo
recibe.
Pero también comprendemos el desconcierto del hijo mayor ante la
generosidad de su padre. Para el hijo mayor, la virtud no es su propia
recompensa. Ha trabajado duro, y ha sido un hijo leal, pero eso no se
celebra con fiestas ni banquetes. Pero su padre es un padre pródigo, y
prodiga su perdón y su misericordia. Y espera que su hijo mayor tenga esa
misma generosidad. Quiere que todos se regocijen porque el que estaba
perdido ha sido hallado.
Este es un domingo para alegrarse. Es día de hacer una pausa, y de
considerarnos y alentarnos unos a otros. Porque todos somos hijos
pródigos, en el camino de regreso al hogar de nuestro padre. Y debemos
también ser hermanos mayores, pero hermanos mayores que esperan
junto con el padre ansioso, mientras vislumbra el horizonte. En Cristo
Jesús nos vemos reconciliados, con Dios Padre, y con nuestros
hermanos. En su Muerte y Resurrección hemos pasado de la muerte a la
vida. Somos una nueva creación. Y esto nos llena de alegría.

From the Desk of the Pastor...
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ:
“Whoever is in Christ is a new creation: the old
things have passed away; behold, new things have
come.” To be part of a parish like ours makes us new
men and women, we celebrate life in the faith and the
faith in life. We have become aware of the mission for
which we have been called: to build the Kingdom of our
Heavenly Father. We have to acknowledge the active
presence of many of you with an enthusiastic response
to the “Generations of Faith” Campaign, with the help of
God, the present time and the future is ours and we will
achieve our parish goals. We thank in a very special
way our Parochial Vicar, Father Kieran, and all the
volunteers for their effort and dedication. God willing,
this day with the final phase in the pews, we hope to
have a massive response to achieve our goal and
perhaps double it. This way we can make our projects,
like the ramp for wheelchairs, come true because here
at St. Fortunata we are all welcome.
We are very grateful to Sr. Norieta’s initiative for
this 24 hours of the “Drying Tears Vigil” that took place
last Friday and Saturday. Each of these moments of
faith is a moment of God that brings us closer, purifies
and renews us. It makes us to reflect in this Year of
Mercy that we have to be compassionate towards the
afflicted and console them to dry their tears.
In this final stretch of our Lenten schedule, let
us ask our Lord Jesus to continue expanding our hearts,
raising our thoughts, brightening our thoughts and that
way we can open our hearts and bring others closer
because is our brother, our sister, my neighbor, your
neighbor.
Del Escritorio del Pastor...
Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas en el Señor Jesús:
“El que vive según Cristo es una criatura nueva; para
él todo lo viejo ha pasado. Ya todo es nuevo”. Ser parte de una
parroquia como la nuestra nos hace varones y mujeres nuevos,
celebramos la vida en la fe y la fe en la vida. Hemos tomado
conciencia de nuestro destino para el cual hemos sido llamados:
edificar el Reino del Padre Celestial. Hay que reconocer la
presencia activa de muchísimos de ustedes respondiendo con
entusiasmo a la Campaña “Generaciones de Fe”, con la ayuda
de Dios el presente y el futuro nos pertenece y lograremos
nuestras metas parroquiales. Agradecemos de una manera muy
especial al P. Kieran nuestro Vicario Parroquial y todos los
voluntarios por su esfuerzo y dedicación, Dios mediante, este
día ya en la fase última, en las bancas, aspiramos a tener una
respuesta masiva para lograr no sólo la meta sino duplicarla, de
este modo podremos realizar nuestros proyectos como la rampa
para sillas de ruedas, porque en santa Fortunata todos somos
bienvenidos.
Se agradece infinitamente a las iniciativas de Sor
Norieta para estas 24 horas de la “Vigilia Secando Lágrimas”
que tuvimos el pasado viernes y sábado. Todos estos momentos
de fe son momentos de Dios que nos acerca, nos purifica y nos
renueva. Nos hace reflexionar en este Año de la Misericordia
que tenemos que ser compasivos y consolar al afligido para
secar sus lágrimas.
En esta recta final de nuestro itinerario cuaresmal,
pidamos al Señor Jesús que nos siga ensanchando el corazón,
elevando nuestros pensamientos, iluminando nuestros
pensamientos para así abrir nuestros brazos y acercar al
totalmente otro porque es nuestro hermano, nuestra hermana, mi
prójimo, su prójimo.
