Life Long Formation
It is difficult to believe that we have already arrived to
the middle of the month of August and school calendars
have begun. At the end of our catechetical year last May
we offered pre-registration for our religious formation
classes for children and youth. This weekend (Sunday,
August 16) we are again offering registration for our
children and youth after all Sunday Masses.
I would also like to add that, as you are registering your
children/youth for classes, don’t forget about yourself.
Faith formation is more than the handing on of religious
instruction. It is growth in faith, which implies both
formation and transformation, leading us to live out the
Gospel as part of a believing community. Everyone,
catechists, clergy, staff, parents, everyone is always a
learner; we are all called to lifelong formation in our faith
lives.
Pope Benedict XVI stated, “Do not presuppose the faith
but propose it… Faith is not maintained automatically. It is
not “finished business” that we can simply take for granted.
The life of faith has to be constantly renewed. And since
faith is an act that comprehends all the dimensions of our
existence, it also requires constantly renewed reflection and
witness” (Gospel, Catechesis, Catechism). Along with
registering your children/youth for faith formation classes, I
am sincerely reminding us all that we are all called to
constantly grow in our faith.
Formación de Fe continúa
Es difícil creer que ya hemos llegado a la mitad del mes de
agosto y ya han empezado los calendarios escolares. Al final del año
pasado de nuestras catequesis en el mes de mayo ofrecimos la
preinscripción para nuestras clases de educación religiosa para
niños y jóvenes. Este fin de semana (domingo 16 de agosto)
estaremos una vez más ofreciendo inscripciones para nuestros
niños y jóvenes después de las Misas del domingo.
También me gustaría añadir así como inscribe a los niños y los
jóvenes en sus clases, no se olvide de sí mismos. Formación en la
fe es algo más que la entrega de la instrucción religiosa. Consiste en
el crecimiento en la fe, lo que implica formación y transformación, lo
que nos lleva a vivir el Evangelio como parte de una comunidad
creyente. Todos los catequistas, sacerdotes, y personal; todo el
mundo es siempre un alumno; todos estamos llamados a la
formación durante toda la vida de nuestra fe.
El Papa Benedicto XVI dijo: "No presupone la fe, sino
propóngalo... La fe no se mantiene automáticamente. Aquí “no
acaba" que podemos simplemente asumir. La vida de fe tiene que
ser constantemente renovada. Y puesto que la fe es un acto que
abarca todas las dimensiones de nuestra existencia, sino que
también exige constantemente una renovada reflexión y testimonio
"(Evangelio, la catequesis, Catecismo). Junto con la inscripción de
sus niños / jóvenes para las clases de formación en la fe,
sinceramente les recuerdo que todos nosotros estamos llamados a
crecer continuamente en nuestra fe.
This fall, our parish is beginning a
very exciting opportunity. We are
beginning a three-year, process of
spiritual renewal and evangelization
that enables people to deepen their
faith, develop a closer relationship with
Christ, grow in community, and reach out in service to
others. This process of community and faith building is
called Arise. We will be forming small faith groups who
will meet for 6 weeks each fall and spring. Throughout the
process an emphasis is made on people living in good
relationship with one another, as they make concrete
applications of the Gospel to their life situations. If you are
interested in being a small group facilitator, please contact
Gloria in the parish office. Small groups will be formed in
September.
Other adult formation opportunities this fall include:
Monday night Bible study looking at the Psalms beginning
on September 14 at 7 p.m. in the Social Hall; Wednesday
morning Scripture study, exploring the Sunday
readings beginning on September 9 at 10 a.m.;
Thursday morning book study beginning on
September 10 at 10 a.m. This fall we will be reading
Feasts by Cardinal Wuerl and Mike Aquilina;
Saturday morning group called Mom to Mom meeting
once per month beginning on September 12.
Este otoño, nuestra parroquia comienza
una muy interesante oportunidad. Estamos
comenzando un período de tres años con el
proceso de renovación espiritual y de la
evangelización, el cual permite a las
personas a profundizar en su propia fe, establecer una relación más
estrecha con Cristo, crecer en comunidad y llegar al servicio de los
demás. Este proceso de comunidad y edificación en la fe se llama
Levántate. Estamos formando pequeños grupos de fe que se
reunirán por 6 semanas cada otoño y primavera. Durante todo el
proceso se hace énfasis en personas que viven en buena relación
uno con el otro y como hacen aplicaciones concretas del Evangelio a
sus situaciones de vida. Si usted está interesado en ser un facilitador
de grupo pequeño, póngase en contacto con Gloria en la oficina
parroquial. Los pequeños grupos se formaran en septiembre.
Otras oportunidades de formación de adultos este otoño incluyen:
estudio de la Biblia “Un vistazo a los Salmos” los lunes por la noche
a las 7pm en el salón parroquial comenzando el 14 septiembre; El
miércoles por la mañana estudio de las escrituras, explorar las
lecturas del domingo comenzando el 9 de septiembre a

Farewell to Deacon Pat Hancock
After many years here serving the community of Christ the Good Shepherd, Deacon Pat
Hancock has been reassigned to minister at St. Anne parish in Tomball, Texas. Deacon Pat’s
last weekend with the CGS community will be August 22/23. He will be preaching at all the
masses that weekend. We will be hosting a farewell reception for Deacon Pat in the Large
Hall after the 12:30 p.m. Mass on Sunday, August 23. We all wish to thank him for his many
years of service here and for his pastoral care to so many.

Are you interested in the Catholic Faith? Are you an adult who has
never been baptized? Let’s talk about the Catholic faith and the
sacraments of the Church. The informal inquiry sessions for adults

Bride’s Room. These sessions are also for adults baptized in
another Christian denomination who are now interested in the

recibir los sacramentos de la Iglesia Católica. Este proceso es
también para los adultos que fueron bautizados Católicos pero
que nunca recibieron la doctrina y que no han recibido los
sacramentos de la Primera Comunión y la Confirmación.
