Dear Parents and Legal Guardians of the Jordan School,
At Jordan Community School, we believe it is important for families and
schools to work together and share responsibility for student success. We very
much value family members’ expertise about their children. Families know a
student best and we can learn from you. During the second semester of this school
year, we want to provide opportunities to our families to come together and become
a more active part of our school with the intentions to better support your children
on having a great school experience.
Researchers have evidence for the positive effects of parent involvement on
children, families, and school when schools and parents continuously support and
encourage the children's learning and development. Studies show that the most
accurate predictor of a student's achievement in school is not income or social
status but the extent to which that student's family is able to:
1. Create a home environment that encourages learning.
2. Express high (but not unrealistic) expectations for their children's
achievement and future careers.
3. Become involved in their children's education at school and in the
community.
Benefits for the Children

Children generally achieve better grades, test scores, and attendance.

Children consistently complete their homework.

Children tend to achieve more, regardless of ethnic or racial background,
socioeconomic status, or parents' education level.

Children have better self-esteem, are more self-disciplined, and show higher
aspirations and motivation toward school.

Children's positive attitude about school often results in improved behavior
in school and less suspension for disciplinary reasons.
Benefits for the Parent

Parents increase their interaction with their children and are more
responsive and sensitive to their children's developmental needs.

Parents are more confident in their parenting and decision-making skills

As parents gain more knowledge of child development, there is more use of
affection and positive reinforcement and less punishment on their children.

Parents have a better understanding of the teacher's job and school
curriculum.

When parents are aware of what their children are learning, they are more
likely to help when they are requested by teachers to become more involved
in their children's learning activities at home.

Parents' perceptions of the school are improved and there are stronger ties
and commitment to the school.

Parents are more aware of, and become more active regarding, policies that
affect their children's education when parents are requested by school to be
part of the decision-making team.
Benefits for the Educator

When schools have a high percentage of involved parents in and out of
schools, teachers and principals are more likely to experience higher morale.

Teachers and principals often earn greater respect for their profession from
the parents.

Consistent parent involvement leads to improved communication and
relations between parents, teachers, and administrators.

Teachers and principals acquire a better understanding of families' cultures
and diversity, and they form deeper respect for parents' abilities and time.
Benefits for the School

Schools that actively involve parents and the community tend to establish
better reputations in the community

Schools also experience better community support.

School programs that encourage and involve parents usually do better and
have higher quality programs than programs that do not involve parents.
Parents are the most important partner in a child's education and schools can
reap large dividends by capitalizing on their support. To be sure, such relationships
require a lot of work by both educators and parents. Although success will not come
easy, the rewards are too great for a school not to try.

Queridos Padres y Guardianes Legales de los Estudiantes de la Escuela Jordan,
En la escuela comunitaria Jordan, creemos que es importante que las familias
y las escuelas trabajen juntos y compartan responsabilidad por el éxito de los
estudiantes. Nosotros valoramos el conocimiento que los miembros de la familia
tienen sobre sus hijos, y nosotros queremos aprender de ustedes. Durante el
segundo semester del año escolar, queremos brindar oportunidades a nuestras
familias de trabajar juntos y ser ua parte más activa de nuestra escuela en nuestras
intenciones de apoyar a nuestros hijos para que tengan una experiencia positiva en
su vida escolar.
Científicos han comprobado el efecto positivo que tiene el involucramiento de
los padres en los hijos, familia y escuela cuando la escuela y los padres
continuamente apoyan y motivan el desarollo y aprendizaje de los niños. Estudios
demuestran que un indicador sólido del éxito de un estudiante en la escuela más
que el estatus socio-económico es determinado por el nivel en que la familia esté
dispuesta a:
1. Crear un ambiente en el hogar que motive el aprendizaje.
2. Expresar altas y realistas expectativas por el éxito de sus hijos en la escuela y
su futuro.
3. Convertirse en una parte active en la educación de los hijos en la escuela y en
la comunidad.
Beneficios para los Estudiantes:

Los estudiantes tienden a ser más éxitosos, sin importar el origen étnico, el
estatus socio-económico o el nivel de educación de los padres.

Estudiantes completan sus tareas más frecuentemente

Estudiantes tienen más confianza en si mismo, tienen más disciplina y
muestran aspiraciones más altas en la escuela.

La actitud positiva de los estudiantes con frecuencia resulta en un

suspenderlos.

Cuando las escuelas tienen un alto porcentaje de padres involucrados
durante y después de la escuela, maestros y directores experimentan una



por parte de los padres.

Un involucramiento permanente de padres conlleva a una mejor
comunicación y relación entre padres, maestros y administradores.

Maestros y directores obtienen un mejor entendimiento de la cultura y

destrezas y tiempo.
Beneficios para la Escuela

Las escuelas que activamente involucra a los padres y la comunidad tienden
a establecer una mejor reputación en la comunidad.

Las escuelas también reciben mejor apoyo de la comunidad.

Los programas de la escuela que involucra a los padres, usualmente
funcionan mejor y producen programas de más alta calidad que aquellas que
no involucran a los padres.
Los padres de familia son los socios más importantes en la educación de los
niños y las escuelas podrían lograr grandes dividendos si capitalizamos su apoyo.
Para asegurarnos que ésto ocurra, éstas relaciónes necesitan mucho trabajo de
ambos, maestros y padres. El éxito no vendrá de la noche a la mañana, pero los
beneficios son muy grandes y las escuelas no pueden darse el lujo de no intenarlo.
