Lesson 4. Género. (gender) Nouns, adjectives, articles and some numbers have gender, that means they can be either feminine or masculine. Generally nouns ending in –o, –aje, y –r are masculine, and nouns ending in –a, –ción, –sión, –dad, –tad, –tud, y –umbre are feminine Artículos (articles) The We use this determinate article (artículo determinado) to name something that we know exists and is unique. It has four forms in Spanish. The apple tree El árbol de manzanas Femenino Singular Plural la las Masculino Singular Plural el los A, An, Some Indeterminate articles (artículos indeterminados). These other articles are used to name something for the first time, when we don’t know if it exists or to make a reference to something from a category. (number) To pluralize a word in Spanish that ends in a vowel you only need to add an “s” Mesa Mesas But if it ends with a consonant you will need an “es” Árbol Árboles Don’t forget you need to match the article with the noun when pluralizing.
