REVISITING OUR BAPTISM
A mere seven weeks ago thousands of
new Church members were baptized.
Their new life in Christ has once again
infused new life into the Church. Their
new-found faith has inspired and bolstered
the faith of those who have followed
Christ for many years. As the Easter season nears its end, we revisit the scene of
our baptisms. In the second reading we
hear Christ calling us: “Come. . . . Let . . . the one who
wants it receive the gift of life-giving
water” (Revelation 22:17).
But our baptism is not one of water only. John
refers to washed robes, and we know that this washing
is to be “in the blood of the Lamb.” To make sure we
get this message, we have today’s first reading from
Acts. It is the story of Stephen, the first Christian to be
killed for his faith in Jesus. We remember the promise
and also the cost of being a disciple of Christ.
RECORDAMOS NUESTRO BAUTISMO
Hace sólo siete semanas que miles de
nuevos miembros de la Iglesia fueron bautizados.
Su nueva vida en Cristo de nuevo infunde
renovada vida en la Iglesia. Esta fe nueva ha
inspirado y alentado la fe de los que han sido
seguidores de Cristo por muchos años. Al
acercarse el fin del tiempo de Pascua,
recordamos la escena de nuestro bautismo. En la
segunda lectura oímos a Cristo que nos llama:
“Ven… el que quiera, que venga a beber gratis del agua de la
vida” (Apocalipsis 22:17).
Pero nuestro bautismo no es sólo de agua. Juan hace
referencia a lavar sus ropas, y sabemos que este lavar es “en
la sangre del Cordero”. Para estar seguros de que
entendemos este mensaje, tenemos la primera lectura de hoy
de los Hechos. Es la historia de Esteban, el primer cristiano
que sufre la muerte por su fe en Jesús. Recordamos la
promesa y también el costo de ser discípulo de Cristo.

Dear Lord,
Today I give you thanks
for my mother.
She bore me in her womb
and gave me life.
She tenderly cared for me
and taught me to walk and talk.
No one delighted in my successes
more; no one could comfort me
better in my failures.
Please bless her, Lord,
and comfort her. Strengthen her when she is down and
give her hope when she is discouraged. Most of all, Lord,
give my mother the graces she most needs today and be
always at her side. Heavenly Mother, Blessed Virgin
Mary, pray for us! Amen

CORRECT OTHERS USING LOVE, RATHER THAN FEAR
Whether it’s as parents, as teachers or as friends, were often in positions to admonish or correct others. Other
times, a trusted friend should feel safe in pointing out our faults or errors, because she wants us to be aware,
and to be better. Remember this only works from a foundation of love. Love allows us to not only stop the
problem temporarily but to actually SOLVE it. Meanwhile, forgiveness is what allows us to move forward,
past injuries or errors. Do not be afraid to provide genuine, constructive criticism of others (or on the flip side, to accept
fraternal correction from others in a spirit of humility) Love means desiring the best FROM and FOR the other, and also
desiring to give and to be OUR OWN BEST SELVES, for the sake of those we love. So we must be gentle and open in
giving AND receiving fraternal (or Parental) correction.
