IS THERE LEAD IN MY HOME AND
WHEN IS IT A HAZARD?
Lead poisoning is detrimental to both children and adults;
however, children are especially vulnerable. Lead poisoning can
make children very sick and cause permanent brain damage.
The most prevalent source of lead exposure in
homes is caused by lead based paint.

If lead based paint is kept intact and surfaces are
kept clean and dust free, children can live safely
in a home with lead based paint. However, lead

RENTAL UNITS
For rental Properties, at least 50% of the units assisted with
program funds must be occupied by or made available
to families with incomes at or below 50% of the Area
Medium Income (AMI) with the remaining assisted units
at or below 80% of the AMI (see table below). Participating
landlords are required to provide a 15% match.

Assistance is now available to reduce or eliminate lead
hazards in housing for qualified applicants through the
City of Sioux City Lead Hazard Control Program. Typical
forms of assistance may include the repair or replacement
of windows, siding, and other painted surfaces.

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS
Both homeowners and landlords are eligible to apply. Housing
selected for assistance under the program must be privately
owned and constructed prior to 1978. In all instances (owner
and renter occupied), households must have a child that is under

Applications for assistance are available from the City of
Sioux City Neighborhood Services Division located in
City Hall at 405 6th Street (Third Floor, Room 305). You
