April is a Busy Month at New Garden Elementary
There are a lot of fun activities planned now through the end of the year. You might wonder why so much landed
in April. Many organizations rent the New Garden cafeteria and gym and the Kennett High school auditorium, so
finding an open date that works with our volunteer chairmen schedules can be a challenge—and April just
happened to be the month with location openings. Please remember that all of the PTO Board and Activity
Chairmen are VOLUNTEERS. We are doing our best to supplement our children’s educational experiences and
foster communication and a sense of community.
In addition to the fun activities we plan, we also contribute significantly toward field trip transportation expenses,
provide funds for teachers to buy supplies, beautify the school through upkeep of bulletin boards, display cases
and exterior decorating. We are involved in re-painting the murals and updating the cafeteria décor. We hope to
have those improvements completed this summer. We arrange and pay for many diverse assemblies and
purchase incentives for good behavior for the Buddy Buck program. We even managed to re-vamp our book fair
profits so that all children could receive a $5 voucher to buy a new book at the spring book fair.
We have moved our meeting time to 4 pm on the 1st Tuesday of the month, so that more teachers could attend.
We will elect new officers in June. Please let us know if you are interested in a board position, so we can put you
on the ballot. The new board may elect to change the meeting time next year, so don’t let the current schedule
discourage you from volunteering. We have been posting meeting minutes on our website. You can find more
details on the board positions and activities there.
