Reading Strategies For Parents To Try at
Home With Your Child
Questions to ask:
Before Reading
• "Why did you select this book to read?"
• "Based on the cover and the title, what do you think this book is going to
be about?" (the response should be detailed)
• "What are you curious to find out about the topic being discussed in the
book? What do you want to learn?" During Reading
• "What is this story about?"
• "What does the main character want?"
• "Will they get it? If so, how?"
• "What is the meaning of what I have read?"
• "Why do you think did the author end the chapter in this way? What do
that make you think about what’s going to happen next?"
• "What do you understand from what you just read? How do you know?"
(must cite evidence from the text)
• "What is the main idea so far?"
• "What picture is the author painting in your head?" (cite evidence)
• "What connections can I make to the text? How do I feel about it?"
• "Why do you think the author chose this particular setting?"
After Reading
• "Why do you think the author chose to tell the story from the (name the
character) point of view?"
• "What was the author's purpose in writing this?"
• "What message or lesson do you think the author wants the reader to take
away from the text?"
• "Which of your predictions were right? What information from the text
tells you that you are correct?"
"If you could ask the author a question, what would it be and why?"

"¿Qué imagen es la pintura de autor en la cabeza?" (cite pruebas)

Después de leer
"¿Por qué crees que el autor eligió para contar la historia desde el punto de
