FASE 2015
SPANISH-GERMAN FESTIVAL OF SOUND ART
(BERLIN)
The organization of FASE (Spanish-German Festival of Sound Art) announces a call for
participation in its 2015 edition for both young and established artists. FASE 2015 will
take place in the city of Berlin, April 16-18, 2015. After four previous editions, this
festival is already an established forum for sound art especially devoted to the
presentation of young Spanish artists in Germany and vice versa.
The call is in two categories:
a) Sound artists or performers currently under the age of 35 or currently enroled in
any art school are invited to submit 1) a piece for headphones; 2) a sound
installation; 3) a piece consisting in a temporally limited sound production for a
hall with an seated audience
b) Established sound artists or performers with at least 15 years of recognized
experience are invited to submit 1) a piece consisting in a temporally limited
sound production for a hall with an seated audience; 2) a sound installation;
Applicants are requested to present one specific proposal related to the concept of
FASE 2015. There are no submission fees and the opportunity is open to everyone
regardless of gender, religion, social and political behaviour. DEADLINE FOR
APPLICATION: JANUARY, 23rd 2015.
Artists will be selected by the advising committee composed by Alex Arteaga, Ricardo
Atienza, Lluís Nacenta, Volker Straebel and Salomé Voegelin.
The curators will select the participants on the basis of the presented materials. Their
decision is final and not subject to appeal. Quality of work and correspondence of the
proposals to the concept of FASE will be basic selection criteria. Production expenses
are included within the limits of the financial and organizational support of the
sponsoring partners of FASE 2015.
Selected Artists are requested to attend the event and present their works. The
organization will provide a fixed budget to cover general expenses, travel or lodging. For
the a) category the selected artist(s) will receive a financial support of 350 €; for the b)
category the selected artist(s) will receive a financial support of 900 €.

Selbstreferentielle Klangkunst
FASE is a German‐Spanish annual Festival dedicated to sound art developed in Berlin
since 2010. The Festival has presented international artists whose work oscillates
between visual and audio creation, interpretation and improvisation, and performance.
In each edition, FASE takes different subjects as main axe of selected works. The
starting point of the Festival is a transnational German‐Spanish cooperation to promote
Spanish sound art in Germany and vice versa. The main aim of FASE is, then, the
creative interchange between Spanish and German artists, and with their international
colleagues, with the goal to establish a stable and united framework to sound art
development. In this way, the Festival was born with the vocation of becoming in a
meeting place and a space to dialogue and reflection about sound art and experimental
music, in debate with related artistic disciplines.
FASE 2015 focuses on the self-image of sound art. This year’s subject deals with the
very conceptualization of the work of sound art in an intentionally ambiguous and selfreferential way. Thus, the pieces presented should address the very notion of creating
sound art through the qualities or limitations of their genres and media. They are selfreferential in the sense that they do not relate to concepts, objects or narratives
beyond the realm of their production, presentation, and reception. They shall be pure
or abstract, they shall involve their perceiver. They may be art for art’s sake, they may
be art about art.
