SIXTH INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION OF MUSIC COMPOSITION MIQ 2015
The Museo Iconográfico del Quijote (MIQ), the Fundación Cervantina de México, A. C., the
Sociedad de Autores y Compositores de México (SACM), the Festival Internacional Cervantino
(FIC), and Radio Universidad de Guanajuato, within the XLIII Festival Internacional Cervantino
ANNOUNCE
The Sixth International Competition of Music Composition MIQ 2015
RULES:
1. The competition is open to composers of any nationality, without limit in age or place of
residence.
2. In this sixth edition of the competition, the work must be written for a mixed quartet
(clarinet in sib, violin, cello and piano).
3. The piece must be of between 10 and 15 minutes as a minimum and maximum,
respectively.
4. Each composer can participate with only one work which must be unpublished and
never before interpreted in public.
5. The composition shall have no restrictions as to the technique or language, only
excluding the use of electronics in any of its modes.
6. The jury will be made up of specialists of recognized prestige and its ruling will be final.
7. The works are to be sent in a package under a pseudonym. The package must contain
the following:
3 printed copies of the work.
1 compact disk including:
-A brief note for hand program.
-Score and parts in a music editor and in PDF format.
-A note briefly explaining and describing the technical compositional
procedures that were used.
-Audio file.
1 sealed envelope that will only be opened by the jury after the ruling has been
given, with the following data of the composer:
-Complete name
-Place and date of birth.
-Current brief resume
-Photocopy of official ID (national identity document), voters’ card or
passport.
-E mail address.
-Land phone number with area code.
-Address (street, number, delegation and zip code).
8. The participants can submit their works personally at the administrative offices of MIQ,
attention Coordinación de Eventos Culturales, Manuel Doblado n.° 1, Col. Centro, C.P.
36000, Guanajuato, Gto., México, Monday through Friday from 9:00AM to 3:00PM, or
else by messenger service or mail, taking into consideration the limit date of the
competition for delivery and on the postmark.
9. The reception of the works will be open from the 4th of May to the 28th of August, 2015
at 3:00PM.
10. The results will be published on the 14th of September, 2015 in the webpage of MIQ:
http://museoiconografico.guanajuato.gob.mx, and will be made known in a press
conference through local and national means. The winner will be notified directly
according to the contact data.
11. The works that have no award will be returned at the express petition of the composer,
who can recover the material at the offices of MIQ on the 1st of November and up to the
12th of December, 2015, Tuesday to Sunday from 9:30AM a 6:30PM.
12. If the return is not requested the materials will form part of the documentary acquis of
the musical collection of MIQ.
PRIZES:
13. The composer who wins first place will receive an only and indivisible prize of $5,000
American Dollars. The wining work will be performed for the first time by an ensemble
made up of professional recognized musicians in the month of October, during the
celebration of the Forty Third International Cervantino Festival, at the facilities of MIQ.
14. The jury reserves the right to grant a second place to the work it considers with sufficient
merits. This prize consists of $2,500 American Dollars and the performance of the work
would take place on the same dates and sceneries as the wining work.
15. The organizers of the competition will pay the traveling and lodging expenses of the
winner of the first place (if the winner should live abroad a round trip tourist class plane
ticket will be paid), as well as the maintenance in the city of Guanajuato during his/her
stay for receiving the prize at the time of the Forty Third International Cervantino
Festival.
16. Any situation not foreseen in this announcement shall be resolved by the jury in full and
by the MIQ management.
