Tr.: Yo habÃ−a, hube… *El futuro simple se forma con el auxiliar “will” y la forma base del verbo. Tr.: Yo habré… *El condicional simple se forma con el auxiliar “would” y la forma base del verbo. Tr.: Yo habrÃ−a… *El pretérito perfecto se forma con el presente simple de “have” (yo he…) y el participio del verbo que se conjugue. Los tiempos de subjuntivo de los tiempos ingleses son idénticos en forma a sus correspondientes verbos en indicativo. Naturalmente, su uso es distinto. Presente simple: I have yo haya. Don't be Let him/her/it not be Let us not be Don't be Let them not be La conjugación de los verbos regulares se diferencia de la de los auxiliares en dos aspectos: • Los verbos auxiliares tienen participio y pasado simple propios (had, been, was, were…), mientras que los verbos regulares forman su pasado simple y su participio añadiendo el sufijo -ed a la forma base del verbo. • Los verbos regulares usan los auxiliares do (does en 3ª pers. del sing.) y did para negar y preguntar en presente simple y pasado simple respectivamente. Rasgos comunes: • No tienen infinitivo. • Los infinitivos que van tras ellos no llevan “to”. • No usan “-s” en la 3ª pers. del sing. del presente simple. • No usan los auxiliares “do” y “did”. CAN. Los tiempos de la voz pasiva continua se forman con el correspondiente tiempo continuo del verbo “to be” (estar) y el participio del verbo que se conjugue. Oraciones interrogativas: igual que las negativas. Como adverbio se utiliza “too”. ADJETIVIZACIà N DEL SUSTANTIVO. Se usan los sustantivos como adjetivos cuando se habla del material del que están hechas las cosas (paper cup: vaso de papel); el uso especÃ−fico para el que fueron creadas las cosas (bread knife: cuchillo del pan); cuando se da la clase o tipo a que pertenecen las cosas o personas (a police officer: oficial de policÃ−a); el lugar en el que habitualmente se colocan las cosas (a table lamp: una lámpara de mesa); y la hora del dÃ−a tÃ−pica a la que se hacen determinadas cosas (the morning break: recreo de la mañana). EL ADVERBIO “YA”. • Oración afirmativa: already. • Oración negativa: any more, any longer. • Oración interrogativa: yet. EL ADVERBIO “TODAVà A”. • Oraciones positivas/positivas interrogativas: still (se coloca como los adverbios de frecuencia). • Oraciones negativas/negativas interrogativas: yet (colocado al final). QUESTION TAQS: “muletillas”. Dependen del verbo de la frase anterior. Si éste tiene auxiliar, la “question taq” también lo llevará. You live tea Don't you live tea. Won't you…? will you. (haven't…etc). HARD: MUCHO. 8 Mucho- más- el que más. Hard- harder- hardest. So much: (os/as). So: tan (adv.). So many (tanto/a/os/as) (adj.). DETERMINANTES DEMOSTRATIVOS: Existen dos: de cercanÃ−a y de lejanÃ−a. This- these: este, esta, estos, estas. That- those: ese, esa, esos, esas, aquel, aquella, aquellos, aquellas. EN CUANTO A PRON. INTERROGATIVOS. Si el pronombre interrogativo inicia la pregunta y es sujeto, entonces está preuntando por la identidad del sujeto. Estructura: Pronombre interrogativo- (Sujeto). Ej.: Who helps you with your homework? What has happened? Who helped you yesterday? Who will help you tomorrow? Who has helped you lately? “FOR” Y “SINCE”. El pasado inacabado se expresa con pretérito perfecto, generalmente continuo + “for” o “since” + expresión de tiempo. Se traduce por “llevar + gerundio” o por el presente simple de indicativo. LOS GRADOS DEL ADJETIVO. • POSITIVO. • COMPARATIVO: de igualdad, de superioridad, de inferioridad. • SUPERLATIVO. 1.a) es invariable (no tiene morfemas de género ni de número). 1.b) siempre va antepuesto al sustantivo al cual califica. 2.a) De igualdad: tan…como + as…as 9 - so….as 2.b) De inferioridad: menos…que Less…than 2.c) De superioridad: más…que -ER: • MonosÃ−labos: taller. • BisÃ−labos acabados en sonido vocálico: happier, cleverer. -More…than: • BisÃ−labos acabados en sonido consonante. • PolisÃ−labos: more helpful. *Excepciones: Real- wrong- right se forman con “more”. Simple- handsome- quiet- pleasant se forman con “-er”. EL GERUNDIO. Infinitivo: fumar- to smoke- Infinitive. Gerundio: fumando- smoking- Present Participle. Participio: fumado- somoke- Past Participle. Gerund: sustantivo verbal (verbal noun). Smoking is bad / Fumar es malo. Puede actuar como Sujeto o como CD de una oración. Usos: • Para las prohibiciones cortas. “Don't smoking”. • Detrás de preposición. “People are afraid of going out at night. Thanks for coming”. • Detrás de ciertos verbos como “enjoy, mind, finish, dislike…” • Verbos que permiten que se use tras ellos infinitivos o gerundio sin cambio de significado, como “begin, bother, continue, can't bear, start…” Los verbos como “like, love, hate prefer…”, si están en condicional, sólo admiten el infinitivo. • Verbos que pueden ir seguidos de infinitivo o gerundio según sea su uso y significado. Ej.: Remember, con gerundio, indica que se están evocando unos hechos pasados, mientras que con el infinitivo se mira hacia el futuro, “acuérdate de…”. Si el verbo stop (dejar de) va con gerundio signifgica que algo se deja de hacer definitivametne. Si lleva un infinitivo significa que se deja de hacer temporalmente. Duplicación de la consonante final con -ing, 10 Al añadir -ing debe duplicarse la consonante final de los monosÃ−labos acabados en consonante precedida de vocal (swim) y de los bisÃ−labos que cumplen esa condición (forget) y van acentuados en la última sÃ−laba. Hay excepciones, como el verbo “to travel” travelling. INFINITIVO NO CONCERTADO. • Mi padre quiere que yo sea médico. • Mi padre querÃ−a que yo fuese médico. • My father wants me to be a doctor. • My father wanted me to be a doctor. En inglés sólo cambia de tiempo el verbo de la frase principal, no de la subordinada, que es un infinitivo con sujeto propio en acusativo (me, en este caso). Bastante. - - - fairly / - - quite/ - rather /// + pretty…good…excellent… ADVERBIOS DE FRECUENCIA. Ej.: always, never, ever, often, sometimes, seldom, usually… Se colocan delante del presente simple afirmativo y del pasado simple afirmativo de todos los verbos excepto be, can, must, may, should y ought to. En todos los demás tiempos, que tienen auxiliar, se colocan dentro del verbo después del primer auxiliar. Ej.: I will never forget you. I Have always liked him. I often go to that pub. You can't always win. También y tampoco. También yo (afirmativa): so + aux + sujeto. Tampoco yo (negativa): neither + aux + sujeto. OMISIà N DE LOS RELATIVOS. Se omiten siempre, a no ser que sea Sujeto o CN. SE recÃ−proco. Each other (2). One another (más de 2, “uno de otro”). Entre… Between: entre 2. Among: entre más de 2. 11 Lejos. Far: No está lejos (It isn't far). Long way: SÃ− está lejos (It's a long way…). EL ESTILO INDIRECTO. El estilo indirecto inglés es igual al español, a excepción del imperativo. Ej.: Vete de clase: El profesor le dijo que se fuera de clase. Go away!- The teacher told her to go away (Infinitivo No Concertado). LA PASIVA. Da más importancia al sujeto que recibe la acción. En español muchas veces traducimos las pasivas inglesas por una pasiva refleja. Ej.: They told me the truth: The truth was told me XXXX: ¡¡MAL!! I was told the truth. En cuanto a los complementos agentes: -No se emplean los pronombres personales ni los pronombres indefinidos compuestos (some-, any-…), como tampoco se emplea la palabra people ni los sustantivos colectivos que se refieran a grupos de usuarios (esto es, los clientes, los lectores, los alumnos…). Ej.: People in Brazil speak Portuguese Portuguese is spoken in Brazil. 12
