Colombian Bishops Conference
Convinced that dialogue is the only possible path to obtain peace, the Bishops of
Colombia warmly welcome the announcement made by the President of the
Republic about the exploratory conversations that will be held with the insurgent
forces in order to establish the bases for a peace process that can, with the help
of God, put an end to the armed conflict. We firmly support this initiative of the
Government.
We recognise the prudence and seriousness with which the national Government
has developed this preliminary rapprochement. In this context, we would like to
let the public know our readiness to help contribute to the search for peace,
favouring a climate of pardon and reconciliation between all Colombians and
facilitating spaces where the Government, civil society and the diverse actors of
the armed conflict can meet and understand each other.
We invite the faithful and the Colombian population to personally take on board
the cause for peace, contributing what they can, depending on their
circumstances, so that the conditions are in place to build a country based on the
rule of law which allows justice, solidarity and fraternity to coexist.
We pray together for peace with great passion and conviction, calling on the
abundant blessing of God for our motherland.

COMUNICADO
“Bienaventurados los que trabajan por la paz”
(Mt 5,9)
Convencidos de que el diálogo es el único camino posible para obtener la paz, los
Obispos de Colombia recibimos con alegría y esperanza el anuncio del señor
Presidente de la República sobre conversaciones exploratorias con las fuerzas
insurgentes para establecer las bases de un proceso de paz que pueda conducirnos,
con la ayuda de Dios, a poner fin al conflicto armado. Brindamos nuestro
decidido apoyo a esta iniciativa gubernamental.
Reconocemos la prudencia y la seriedad con las que el Gobierno nacional ha
venido desarrollando estos acercamientos preliminares. En ese contexto,
queremos reafirmar ante la opinión pública nuestra disponibilidad de contribuir a
la búsqueda de la paz, favoreciendo un clima de perdón y reconciliación entre
todos los colombianos y facilitando el encuentro y el entendimiento entre el
Gobierno, la sociedad civil y los diversos actores del conflicto armado.
Invitamos a nuestros fieles y al pueblo de Colombia a hacer propia la causa de la
paz aportando cada uno desde su condición los elementos requeridos para la
construcción de un estado de derecho que permita la convivencia en la justicia, la
solidaridad y la fraternidad.
Oremos unidos por la paz, con fervor y convicción, invocando la bendición
abundante de Dios sobre nuestra Patria.
